Are the US weapons gonna have the new 6.8 round being changed with the 5.56?? I don't think it would be hard, all you gotta do is increase the damage of the M4 and M16A4 (once its released), and boom you say its a new round and people are muy happy.
I was watching future weapons and the new berretta M468 looks freaking awesome, but isnt it just an M4 with a new rail intergrated hand guard??? The HK 416 looks pretty damn nice too.

The military won't adopt the 6.8 anytime soon at least. Even if they did, you could just give it the same velocity and damage as the AK47, as the 6.8 SPC fires a projectile of similar weight and at similar velocity.
If they adopted a piston version like the 416 then no change would be necessary either, it's only a change to the gas system, which is difficult to see externally. M468 is a new upper chambered in 6.8 with some integral rails.

From this picture, I assume not. That skinny little tube above the barrel looks like the gas tube of the standard direct impingement gas system.
I'm a little skeptical myself about the added reliability of the gas piston. If they were building a rifle from the ground up that's the way to do it because it keeps the rifle cleaner if you have to fire a lot of round between cleanings, but all of these "I fire one round and then my rifle jammed" stories sound much more like bad magazines or sand contamination preventing the action from cycling. A piston wouldn't really help in either situation, and I don't think they should replace all those rifles just to get one.

Not going to happen. The 5.56 is here for the forseeable. For SF units, maybe, but as the SF class in the mod represents an SF soldier attached to a regular unit, they would more than likly carry a weapon of the standard calibre.
If/when a new trial for the STANAG rifle calibre rolls around, maybe, but that certainly wont happen prior to the events of PR.

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.
