Wire Cutters!

Post by Desertfox »

In real life I am pretty sure that if you put C4 on razor wire and flew it from 15 feet away you would get a face full of shrapnel :/ So why not WIRE CUTTERS! Have it act like the buildings in helmand.

I stay like a foot from the razorwire, pull out my cutters and hold down the mouse button you get a animation and 10-20 seconds later you have a small section of razor wire that is cut and able to fit 2 people side by side.

For fences, same thing! Have a "wreck" and a normal fance, walk up to the fence 10-20 seconds later you have a hole!

PS: Give them to the engineer :p

Its possible, but might create a bit more lag.

Personally, it'd be nice if cars and tanks could actually break through fences. Its sad as it is.

(I actually tried ramming a small wooden fence with a tank, sadly it didn't do anything.)

Nice idea, IMO.

The fence around Facility on Basra dose this.

not a bad idea, I dont know about fences, but it would be good to get rid of C4, using the wrench animation or something.

It's awfully hard to operate as recon when you're moving along and find your only way to proceed is the liberal use of explosive ordinance. I really like this idea of an explosives-free way to get in through chain link/boarded up fences.

Would create no more lag then a destructable building on helmand!

What I am thinking is if its possible to make the wire cutters ONLY do damage to the razorwire/fence. Say it does 10 damage every second to the object thats 10 seconds. When it gets "destroyed" boom! A hole.

Small, but neat idea. Wouldn't cause any lag, otherwise blowing bridges and destroying buildings would crash the server. It shouldn't too difficult to have wire cutters only work for certain objects also, since you can already have wrenches apply to vehicles, medbags for injured soldiers etc. Only thing is that it would probably require some new statics, and a map that takes advantage of some major fence network. But I think it would be worth it.

Would be great to have areas sealed off with a fence network, and have some SF squad covertly sneak in by cutting a hole in it.

I'd only approve of this idea if first all the wall barriers were destructable that we could blast through. Like the ones in helmland only modeled and textured like the original walls they replace.

too bad that the wire irl is a very high tensil (spelled wrong?) strength steel which is EXTREMLY hard to cut and even blast through, currently they just have a few guys either go at it for like 20 minutes or from what my cuz (usmc, came back from iraq last year) says just find a large board or similiar and drive/walk over that

right now they are testing something to use shape charge technology to cut through the stuff, and it works GOOD!.... not adopted by the military yet

Yeah, for a real assault the military either puts a board over it or as I have heard of the VC doing in Vietnam from my dad they would just have one guy run and jump on top of it to squash it down...

great idea. it's the little things that make greater tactical variation possible in the end ;)

There are wire cutters that are made for high strength military grade fences.

However, they are not exactly hand held, they look like huge gardening tools. So it would have to be a special class. (engineer)

Would work great! Egg should see this thread, he can give you the "OKAY" or not. This would promote more people to using the engineer kit.
Good thinking.

Im pretty sure they dont use wire cutters to breach wire.

If you could cut through fences with bolt cutters, shouldn't you able to blow them up with C4 and stuff as well? Grenades or AT rockets probably shouldn't work, though.. what about HEAT shells? Iron bombs? Where should you draw the line?
