APC grip issues.

Post by [-=IDSF=-]SykloAG »

I've noticed that the USMC APC seems to slide very easily on slopes.

Also, it seems to have less torque than a 50cc kids bike, especially evident when climbing anything more than a light gradient. The LAV-25 has a powerful engine and transmission:

Engine 275 hp Detroit Diesel 6V53T

PERFORMANCE @ GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight, i.e max operating weight)

* Maximum speed 62 mph
* Swim speed 6 mph
* Maximum range 410 miles
* Minimum turn diameter 51 ft.
* Maximum trench crossing 81 in.
* Maximum grade 60%
* Maximum side slope 30%

More specs at http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/lav-25.htm

So what is up with this thing? Why does it feel so weak?

Also, the Hummers feels like it get stuck in third gear - way to slow. Overall, many vehicles leave the impression of being underpowered. Almost like they are running on diluted diesel fuel.

hm, it would be great to drive with a LAV-25 a 60% grade up and i agree, all light vehicles are lot to vulnerable to terrain and have to les powerfull engines, that should realy be fixed

It would also be more realistic if land/air/sea vehicles needed fuel. Can than even be done?

The shift shouldn't be temporary though - should be as long as you hold down shift. I've never seen a temp boost before. Unless it's nitrous oxide. You telling me these military vehicles are kitted out with nitrous oxide? :razz:

syk, i'm with you on your general conclusions, vehicles should be re-assessed in terms of torque and power now that the copters are just right in terms of speed.

yeah, tanks seem to be having a harder time going up inclines too.....

I vote for having near infinite shift in the vehicles!
I don't think it would be too bad cause
1. When going that fast, you can't really hit anything with decent accuracy
2. It's not terribly easy to steer at such high speeds unless your in open terrain
3. Seriously, who could be bothered holding down 'shift' for an extended period of time......?

Interesting...

Great tip Riki_Rude, did I miss this one in the manual?

But what is it supposed to be? Nitrous? Why not just have a decent engine and transmission?

And by the way I was testing this Shift thing on Al Basrah when my APC started sinking...

I was looking for something other than a RIB as the only boat.

Then you havethe LAV-25, which can "swim".

Then I found this:
These vehicles are also amphibious, meaning they have the ability to "swim", but are limited to non-surf bodies of water (no oceans).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LAV_25

Is this correct?

If so, could we have something else:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expedition ... ng_Vehicle
is the newest USMC amphibious vehicle, intended for deployment in 2010.

What's annoying is when you're on a slight slope and it rolls back when you fire the gun.

Yeah, a parking brake would be great.

I have found the recoil to be less noticable if you are firing straight ahead as opposed to left or right, which seems to rock the vehicle more.

I'm sure IRL it would be more stable. Certainly with the rolling on slopes thing.

WOOOOOO lets back up. Choppers really need some retooling they are no where near good. Actually I resend that I have not had experience in the Cobra but the Blackhawk needs to be striped down and done over. BH has unreal speeds and me myself and I are hoping the devs do something about it in the next patch or so.

i dont see why you were firing on a hill in the fisrt place, if you were doing justice to your team youd be using it as a mobile spwn point(puts hands over ears as he is getting ready to get shouted at) so it should be somewhere safe
not on a hill :26_suicid
