Stationary weapons and assets

Will we see a replacement for those stinger sites? or at main bases id like to see them AND unguided anti air, such as these

just idea for more variety

also the stationary machine guns are very unuseful in BF2 there are only a few that get used. if its possible, it would be cool to have those turn 360 degrees, or maybe make them moveable acrosss the sandbags they are on, its just id like to see them used more often.

as far as the AT stationarys go, i dont know much about them but what are the plans for those?

i think all main bases should have 2-3 Anti air things just to prevent main base rape.

just some ideas that crossed my mind.

I hope we see a replacement for the stingers, maybe man portable stingers and the VAADS or what ever its called. Or we could use Bradley Linebackers, Avengers or LAV-AD that are stationary. IRL they don't drive around looking for enemy radar contacts, when they are actually operational they are stationary. They just can be moved more easily than the VAADS or stationary mounts. As for AT, we already have the TOW. I don't think the Javelin or SRAW can be mounted on a stationary mount. The stationary 249s should be replaced with .50s or Mk19 40mm Grenade Launchers.

The M167 Vulcan Air Defense System pictured there hasn't been used in US service for quite a while. I believe it is still in use by ROK. The 20mm Vulcan cannon itself is still used all over the place, though. There was never a direct replacement for the M167, as the US Army seemed to move towards SAM systems only afterwards.

The self-propelled version, the M163, served in ODS and was finally phased out in '94 with nothing really to replace it until the Bradley Linebacker and LAV-AD came along a few years later.

There is an anti-aircraft mount for the .50 cal M2 HB, but I've only seen pics of it in the manuals, never photos of it in the field, so I don't know how often it is employed.

On the OPFOR side of things there are various and numerous towed anti-aircraft machineguns and artillery pieces that could be added.

Looks pretty heavy duty stuff too. Allot of modern AA weapons are able to fold up in to a man portable bag etc. That thing need towing.

I think more defensive weapons are in order. There are so few in type and quantity that defending a base successfully is extremely difficult.

I think portable stingers are a must, at least as spawnable weapon kits. The stingers in BF2 are just to lame, in a sense that any seasoned BF2 pilot will take out these locations first, since they spawn in the same spot everytime.

Just FYI, the upcoming UK version of the Javelin will feature a lightweight tripod ground-mount.

Err... you seem to have confused the US Javelin ATGM with the UK Javelin MANPADS

The UK Javelin shoulder-launched surface-to-air missile is a further developement of the blowpipe missile which has seen action in the Falklands campaign.

I assure you I have not. The UK will soon be fielding the Javelin ATGM, as well, and will be phasing the Milan out with it in some units. Note that the soldiers in that photograph are British soldiers, but the weapon is a Javelin ATGM.

Im more then likly wrong, but don't they still use the 20mm Vulcan AA on Navy Ships, maybe something diffrent then what you were talking about.
Also, a guy in my tournment was in the British Army, he seemed to love the Milan, maybe hes never used the Javelin ATGM.

You're correct; the Vulcan cannon itself is still used in a lot of things in US service, just not in the towed or self-propelled ground-based air defense anymore.

What you're thinking of is the Mk-15 Phalanx Close-In Weapon System (CIWS), and it uses the Vulcan cannon. It is the last line of defense against aircraft and anti-ship cruise missiles, but the newer Block 1B variants are able to be used against small surface craft.

AFAIK F-104 entered service long after Korea.

What I meant to say was that there are two different missile systems named Javelin.
