scuttling vehicles
a minor point perhaps already covered elsewhere (i couldnt see anything but i might have missed it) but why does one lose points for team vehicle damage when one scuttles a damaged friendly vehicle so it can respawn back at base?
is there no way of disabling this so that when a vehicle is empty and damaged no minus points occur when its destroyed?
(i hope my use of the term "scuttle" is correct btw)

I agree with you, also i think that you shouldn't lose points for dying in a vehicle, especially if you're just a passenger, i mean, what problem was that meant to solve?

Its a problem with the BF2 code. If you die in a vehicle it assumes that the vehicle was destroyed when you died (which is why you are "killed" rather than "critically wounded", as the game thinks you died in a huge explosion, even if you were sniped of a mounted MG)
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Going with the "realism" part, you don't destroy vehicles in real life so that they respawn back at base. So, at the minimum you get some minus points. I do understand what you are saying.
I do destroy Zodiacs (RIBs), though. They show up on the enemies minimaps, showing where you landed. I would think that in "real life" you might want to destroy (or at least sink, maybe to be raised later??) your RIB in some circumstances.

I believe this is fact. If you can't recover a vehicle it will be destroyed so that the enemy can't repair it or use technology off of it, guns/radios. I believe usually a thermite grenade will be tossed into it to destroy it. But I am not 100% on this.BoogieWines wrote:no but in "real life" you do scuttle damaged vehicles if you cannot salvage them or recover them. (or they fall into enemy hands)
i think anyway, someone with military experience would be useful here.

just for reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1_Abrams
on a side note, i think that insurgents should not have team damage or negative points for team kills from suicide cars.. and the suicide cars explosion / blast radius should be increased.. have you seen the size of the explosions in real life?? huge! im sure dice has that negative score for tk hard coded so you couldn't disable it for just one set of circumstances, but would be nice.
but in PR enemys cannot drive vehicles that are not "theirs" which i think is pretty unrealistic.. what if a hmmwv was hijacked, the insurgents are obviously going to know how to drive that....According to the Army’s Office of Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans, 23 Abrams tanks were destroyed or damaged in the Persian Gulf area. Of the nine Abrams destroyed, seven were due to friendly fire, and two were intentionally destroyed to prevent capture after they became disabled. Other Abrams tanks were damaged by enemy fire, land mines, on-board fires, or to prevent capture after they became disabled.

I think that engineers should be able to drive other factions vehicles such as Hummers, vodniks, and other small easily operable vehicles. It would add another incentive to use the engineer class. But maybe make it so they have less handleing, or that it would take time to start the vehicle up (ala, CoD:UO).

seriously, why wouldn't this be possible, i could see them not being able to drive an M1 abrams or APC / A-10 or helicopter.. but a vodnik or hmmwv, im sure any of us non trained non military could go out and drive a vodnik / hmmwv.NavalLord wrote:I think that engineers should be able to drive other factions vehicles such as Hummers, vodniks, and other small easily operable vehicles.
