Incentives for players to fight harder.

Post by Guerra »

A nice incentive for lazy and indifferent players to actually want to win is if winning actually improved their score.

So a win for the UMSC could be a 1.5x multiplier. So if I got 200 points, and we won, multiply it by 1.5 which is 300 points. (Commander who wins can get his 2x, but since its a thankless and lonely job, I'd give them 3x if the win).

Often too many players just don't give a shit about winning, they just find a camping spot and pick off stragglers.

Then you'd see end of round teamswitching though.

It's not about the points. If a team doesn't wanna win, then let 'em lose.

Well, most servers have it so you can't team switch with an imbalance of 2 max.

As brits on Hills to Hamgyong, incentives to run up the hill and attack the enemy is usually provided by me screaming, ranting and raving, calling them all cowards and shooting the occassional coward (or stabbing them) for their obvious cowardice in the face of the enemy.

I would prefer a more motivating method of getting the troops blood up and have them screaming their way through the enemy defences, but it does you good to get a few million expletives out now and then.

Honestly, the Commander should be able to execute uncooperative players.

I hate this map... I usually stay behind and do nothing useful when I'm on it... it's WW2 suicide run all over again... "yay, let's run toward the enemy bunkers, sniper and infantry !"

I do this all the time. I can't stand the complete idiots who don't know how to do anything. I sometimes feel like I'm the only one who actually realizes that we're playing an objective based game. Usually the worthless idiots will call me a noob and tell me to shut up and that I suck at the game, even though I'm in first place on our team.

You still can. I'm not going to say how though. Most people know. Unless teamswitching is completely off, you can switch.

Re: the beefed up commander skillz, I agree completely. It would be kind of an easy way for someone to sabatoge a server though. And I do occasionally have a retarted commander. Like when I'm looking for the UAV trailer in Al Basrah airport to resupply my APC, and he keeps spamming "FOLLOW MY GOD DAMN ORDERS" at me. Almost happened again tonight, though he was good once I explained what I was doing.

Re: Hills, that's a great map. If you think it's retarted you probably aren't using smoke very effectively.

maybe not in 0.6, but in near future the PR scoring will go through signifigant changes.

Fun > Score; without a serious ranking for this mod alone it's worthless really.

Yeah the secret is to get really really high, and then you don't have a worry in the world left as well as having that big hill look like a giant pile of [--fill in your favorite candy bar here--]

Don't know about the scoring system tho. This tends to bring peoples attention back to the score system which we are trying to get rid of. But its true that it could help get a few players a bit more focused.
How about: the team who looses gets no points, nada, ziltch, que dalle. So if you spent the whole round lone wolfing or whatever, racking up lots of points but your team in the end looses --> Well that was pretty pointless :)

Spot on , for me anyways. PR isn't about points. It's about teamwork and dedication to what your doing atm!

With a great SL u'll have a ton of fun. However if none of my regular SL's is on i usually quit and come back at a later time.

So, Fuzzhead keep training SL's that's whats really making this game fun!

Saobh, that would be a bit too drastic. Would be better like this imo: if your team looses with 0-n (where n is server configurable number) the loosing team wouldn't get any points at all. Example, on X server, n is 30, if your team looses 0-112 your team gets no points; however if your team looses 0-19 you get the points as you would in the current version.

That reminds me, I had a really close game about a week ago. Frigging 1-0 for China. (I was USMC). The pilot who was flying my entire squad was at fault, ******* drove right up to an enemy tank. RIGHT UP TO IT!

Sigh.

But seriously, players need to be forced into cooperation. Too many ******* snipers lone wolfing it when snipers and marksmen can really be instrumental in winning. They are the ultimate scout.

Fuzz, care to elaborate on how it'll be different? I hate when people say "oh we'll fix it and make it different" but then don't tell us how. Makes me wonder how much community participation is involved.

On BF42 omaha beach, you could totally make it so long as you had a couple of snipers keeping the bunker windows/MGs clear and some engineers and AT in your landing party.

Why do you care about the score, you dont unlock anything, it has no purpose what so ever for you.
After I started playing PR I dont even look at the scoreboard any more, to me its just well... vanilla and worthless

True that! Nothing funner than being in a well-coordinated squad that's actually sticking together and using tactics.

I look at the score these days but only because I am mystified by how I seem to climb it regardless of what I'm doing.

Yes, this was a shameless plug for Croix20. Croix20 is a very talented player. Do not be a **** to Croix20 because he will call you on it.

But seriously, I think the psychological satisfaction felt to those that play in squads is really enough of a benefit without additional scoring changes, though I am occasionally saddened to see my great Squad Leader somewhere around the middle or last part of the score list.

I think the major challenge is getting across to the masses this fact - points don't mean jack shit. It's about the teamwork involved, and supporting your comrades while working for a short-term objective.
