Nub to PR, what should i know/expect

Post by da_schmitty »

Hey guys, a friend, jt_001, has got me onto this mod...Just wondering what tips you veterans have for me. I'm pretty well versed in vanilla BF2, so I would like to know what I can do in squad combat to help me in PR....

Thanks!

Enable VOIP (must have!!!), watch the Tutorial-movies, join a server, forget everything you know about BF2, join a squad, do what the Squadleader tells you.

Forget everything in the bold. Im not kidding, forget everything you learned from vBF2 and start over. Read the guide to get a good understanding of kit limiting etc etc etc. If you join up in a voip squad im sure there will be people that will be willing to help you if you ask also.

Welcome to the mod, da_schmitty. We hope you enjoy the mod. This mod is completely different from Vanilla, and you will always have to work as a squad with others to play well. For more information look at the guide.

Lesson 1: If you die... don't give up hope. And you will die... a lot... at first.

There's a lot of helpful information in this section of the forum and the wiki guide. Someday.. someone will have a thread for all of it in one place. :)

Welcome to Project Reality.

HELL

P.s
- LISTEN, think, RESPOND
- Be prepared to be told which kit to choose and where to go and how to move and what NOT TO DO and
- For goodness sake never ever ever go strait to an objective even IF your squad is doing the same, go round to the side, AVOID ENEMIES till you are close to the flag as possible! (if you have read this - please show me a sign that you have and understand???????)

Welcome to the mod, enjoy it ;) Seems you're starting to play at the right time. Other helpful tips are to not get angry at anyone on PR it's a game. If someone annoys you by doing something, ask them to stop. Also, when you're in-game, use VoIP and work with the rest of your squad, you'll slowly pick up on how the game works.

  • Get a mic.
  • Get in a squad.
  • Cover is your friend.
  • Open spaces are not.
  • Use smoke grenades to cross roads.
  • Play to the benefit of your team, and if that is too big a task, to the benefit of your squad.
  • Read up a little on Murphy's Laws, they often apply here.
  • Watch the messages in the top left corner of your screen, they could just save your life.
  • When in doubt of a friend or foe, wait for the tags to show.
  • Read up on the player guides.
If you're still having trouble, feel free to ask questions.

I like you. Enthusiastic, positive, polite. Keep going like that, and the community will welcome you with open arms. And feel free to post some suggestions to improve the mod (but use the search function first  ).

da_schmitty your in-game nick?

Some of the finer points that confuse alot of players coming over from vanilla...

Kit requests = Press T key and choose kit. Must Be....

25m from your teams main base
3m from a supply drop
3m from a rally point
3m from the BACK of US apcs, the side of the other teams (to simulate getting the kit out of the back of the apc)

you cannot request heavy AT from rally points, and to request a crewman or pilot kit, your supply zone (ie whatever your requesting the kit from) must be 100m from a friendly flag

You need two things to operate a vehicle. 1. A crewman Kit and 2. to be in the squad with the other vehicle operators. If you are not, you will be automatically killed after 10 seconds. This does not apply to passenger seats, only gunner/driver positions.

As long as you understand those two mechanics, listening to a squad leaders orders will be all you need

I just forgot what the title of the thread was, and I thought (for the briefest of moments) that you just swore randomly... Yeah, bedtime.

Glad to see we've made a good impression. Two more things for me to add:

1) PR has a VERY steep learning curve.

2) These forums also have rules. If anyone gives you grief or hassle, contact an R-MOD.
