it would make sense... its not like the SAW is some gun that for some reason takes longer to sight than any other weapon...
I recently downloaded the Infiltration mod for UT, and their ironsights are the thing i miss the most when i get come back to playing PR after a bit of playing Inf. that and the free aim.
IMO, PR needs to take off the "iron sight zoom"
As much as people argue that its because you can "focus" your eyes when you sight in blah blah blah, the fact that two of the games that are considered the most realistic shooters (Red Orchestra and Infiltration) dont have it should be a sign.

I don't think the zoom for going to iron sight should be taken away. Its perfectly fine, its not like its sniper level zoom, lol. Its just right. But I do wish we had 3-d/free aim iron sights. But it is very intricate and cumbersome work for every gun to be done. Plus, I think most can live without it.

YAY!!! You don't know just how happy it makes me when Infiltration is used for constructive and positive examples.causticbeat wrote:the fact that two of the games that are considered the most realistic shooters (that other game that us filthy Inf'ers do not speak of and Infiltration) dont have it should be a sign.
I still play Inf at least an hour or two every week and the weapons handling in it is one of the things I missed the most when I started to move over to PR. Want something even better causticbeat, you should try Inf with RAv3 (Real Aim version 3) and RT (Real Targets).
The dev team just recently acquired an animator or two did they not?

what do RAv3 and RT do?
Ive only had inf for like 3 days, but its great fun. And for as much as the community gets shit about their elitism, when theyre actually playing the game theyre pretty helpful. But yeah, the weapon handling (the collision, ironsights, 3d, and freeaim) is definitely the best part of the mod, and if it could be added to PR, it would be perfect

I'm kind of on the fence about the slight zoom you get in PR when iron sighted but there's 2 things that mean it should probably stay IMO. 1, having no zoom will give the rifles with optics a huge advantage, and 2, the iron sights are very unaccurate compared with Red Orchestra's precision ones so you need a bit of zoom to stand a chance of hitting them.causticbeat wrote:it would make sense... its not like the SAW is some gun that for some reason takes longer to sight than any other weapon...

I dont know what the magnification levels of the optics on the rifles are, but this is project REALITY, so etc etc, make them as they should be.:iGi:.U.G.H. wrote:I'm kind of on the fence about the slight zoom you get in PR when iron sighted but there's 2 things that mean it should probably stay IMO. 1, having no zoom will give the rifles with optics a huge advantage, and 2, the iron sights are very unaccurate compared with Red Orchestra's precision ones so you need a bit of zoom to stand a chance of hitting them.
I think that while it is ok to have gameplay aspects rely on metaphors (rally points, insurgents, civillians, ammo bags, flag caps, etc etc)
letting something like ironsights rely on metaphors (ie. the "zoom" representing your eye focusing) makes the game feel cheap and un-realistic

All fine and dandy, but as long as the system in place for shooting is so arcadish (and perhaps "hardcoded"), realism features could be less realistic than intended.causticbeat wrote:I dont know what the magnification levels of the optics on the rifles are, but this is project REALITY, so etc etc, make them as they should be

There is some challenge to shooting with iron sighted weapons in PR... sniper rifles and scoped rifles are much easier to handle... much more than they are in reality (I hunt and use both an scoped and an unscoped rifle)..
So for the sake of reality, iron sights only would create way more realistic fire fights even though having no scopes on any rifles isn't realistic.
Just because you introduce a realistic feature doesn't mean the gameplay itself becomes more realistic. It is that balance that is a bit off in PR if anything.
And I would like realistic firefights more than I would like perfectly modelled sniper rifles and authentic gear.
PR is great, but the last 10% for perfection is what I am discussing here.

I think that with a remodel (pretty much just resizing of the sights so they take up a bit less of the screen and the front sight isnt as bulky) of the 2d ironsights, the no zoom on IS would work pretty well. And I think it would do alot for gameplay. It would certainly be harder, but hey, its PR, if you want handouts go back to vBf2.Doc.Canis wrote:All fine and dandy, but as long as the system in place for shooting is so arcadish (and perhaps "hardcoded"), realism features could be less realistic than intended.

The only issue i beleive is that bf2 wont render a target at a distance that you could see IRL without the zoom, but if this can be fixed (and i beleive its being worked on atm) I think there is really no excuse to have the ironsight zoom.
I think firefights would actually be alot better with this feature too. ATM PR's gunfighting feels very arcadey compared to a game with better ironsights like Red Orchestra

I understand, but i think.:iGi:.U.G.H. wrote:I'm kind of on the fence about the slight zoom you get in PR when iron sighted but there's 2 things that mean it should probably stay IMO. 1, having no zoom will give the rifles with optics a huge advantage, and 2, the iron sights are very unaccurate compared with Red Orchestra's precision ones so you need a bit of zoom to stand a chance of hitting them.
1. Rifles with optics should have a huge advantage
2. EVERYONE would have unzoomed iron sights, so it would be an even playing field. You wouldnt have a harder time of hitting them than they would on you.
