It's not just the Ak-47 and 101 that have the "eye too close to rear sight" problem, I believe that the M16 has it too.
If you don't want to or can't (even though a dev said the engine does support it) make 3D iron sights for the hand held weapons, at least redo them so that it won't give the impression your eye is half an inch from the rear sight...

One of the developers says that it is:
'[R-DEV wrote:Katarn']The BF2 engine does support 3d iron sights but we decided to go along with vBF2's style of 2d irons so everything matches up and there aren't blaring differences between content.

Even IF the project reality team had an interest in doing 3D sights, the amount of work involved would be astounding. Since most of the vBF2 first person weapons sights actually will not work and are far from accurate, we'd have to remodel every single weapon. Also, realistically, looking through sights, the rear sight would naturally be blurred out due to your eye focusing on the front sight post, which vBF2 already simulates.

Granted, remodeling all of the weapons is fast becoming a possibility. The QBZ-95, the L85 series, the upcoming M16/M4 series, and upcoming G3 series are all done by PR developers.

The eye relief from the aperature when shooting an M16 should be around 4 inches; with An AK, it's around 11 inches. Currently they're both shown at what I figure to be 1 inch.
