I remember reading somewhere these were used in WWII to be thrown on/near tanks, and would melt through them disabling the tank.
i was just curious, are these still in use today? do they do considerable amount of damage to todays MBT? And do modern guerillas use them today against our tanks? i was just curious because it seemed like something that the guerille MEC faction should have in this mod eventually.

Re: Phosphorus Grenades
I don't know about MEC but US Special Ops should have them. The Russians might have something similar. As for doing damage to modern MBTs i don't think it does. If you could do damage with that small of a package why are HEAT rounds the size they are? It might scorch the metal a little but thats all. Unless you put one up the exhaust, that may cause serious damage.keef_haggerd wrote:I remember reading somewhere these were used in WWII to be thrown on/near tanks, and would melt through them disabling the tank.

That's a Thermate (improved Thermite formula) incendiary grenade, Req. White phosphorus (WP or "Willie Pete"), while it does have incendiary properties, is something different.requiem wrote:I think you mean this? http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/m14-th3.htm
The M34 WP grenade was sometimes called a "suicide grenade," since it had a burst radius of 35 meters. An average soldier could throw it about 30 meters.
In US service the M34 WP hand grenade is listed as obsolete and is no longer made; in fact, it isn't even mentioned in the most recent edition US Army field manual concerning grenades.Super62 wrote:I don't know about MEC but US Special Ops should have them. As for Russian or Chinese WP grenades, would have to get back to you on those type-classifications, if they have them.

Correct me if im wrong, I know there's a type of grenade, similar to, if not it's the Phosphorus, the chemicals in the grenade ignite when they come in contact with oxygen. The burn very hot like phosphorus, and when put in water, they stop burning, but as soon as oxygen is availible, they reignite, so when it comes in contact with you, all you really can do is what for it to burn down, or cut of the area of flesh which it came in contact with... As for them being used in real life, they are, but not with out criticism, while some soldiers like'm, some think altough effective, they are inhuman to use, and should be discontinued for being to painful and cruel, for the most part, they are used as a weapon of last resort most of the time.
