Think about it from their perspective. If they don't shoot the RPG at you, you kill them and you still live. If they shoot it, atleast you die too.JP*wasteland.soldier wrote:I mostly agree with you. But I still reserve the right to ***** about the light AT insurgents who fire at the ground killing us both when we round a corner at the same time.
They are insurgents, we're not talking about an organized government military force with professional soldiers, we're talking about insurgents. They are desperate and don't value their lives that much.
Thats why putting C4 on a bike and suicide ramming it into an APC, hummer or tank is a viable attack as an insurgent. It is however, unacceptable for a USMC, British, MEC or PLA soldier to do. So I think reckless and suicidal attacks from insurgents is as it should be. Its suppose to demoralize the enemy.
but anyways, I digress.
Yeah. Grenade launchers are baaaaaaaaaaaaad. (Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but they are built to explode on contact, its not timed or such, so they shouldn't bounce off things and they certainly shouldn't explode midair.)

Guerra: IRL launched grenades have a minimum arming distance. Its usually around 30-40 meters. Most of the time the mechanism is the amount of times it revolves in the air, as they have a spin on them when they launch.
So running around a corner with a grenade launcher out, seeing a whole squad, and then aiming at your feet and killing everyone including yourself, is neither
A) realistic
or
B) good for a tactical shooter
Hopefully the changes we make will make grenadiers not so annoying in v0.6.
Grenadier = Short-Medium range localised mortar support.
It should NOT be the ultimate CQB weapon like it currently is in v0.5.
Theres always something
first the SAW, then the M4, now the grenade launcher
Whats next?

Exactly!'[R-DEV wrote:fuzzhead']

I used to be proud of being a somewhat skilled Grenadier. Y'know, making long distance shots on multiple targets?
This is how it works now:
You spot Grenadier and fire at him with rifle.
Grenadier pops around nearest corner.
You keep firing.
He keeps quickly popping in and out, making sure you're still there firing at him.
After popping in and out about three or four times, he fires a nade at your feet and has just enough time to get around the corner again to avoid killing himself.
This is usually at around 20 feet or so distance.
Also, I love it when I catch one off guard, who obviously still has his rifle ready, so he bunnyhops while switching (I wish this and bunnyhopping+reloading weren't possible) and shoots a nade at his feet at the last second.

I don't think there is much left for "noobs" to turn to after the grenade launcher has been nerfed. And once the US and UK have their weapons either upped in power or lowered in recoil and balanced out, all the infantry weapons will be pretty much perfect.'[R-DEV wrote:fuzzhead']Guerra: IRL launched grenades have a minimum arming distance. Sure, these noobs will turn to hand grenades, but those are limited in what they can do. The only thing left to balance will be maps. Maps play 50% in creating this games experience. Once map makers get away from unrealistic and nontactical map set-ups, then a lot of these problems will be eliminated.
The chances of you getting noobtubed up close in Mao is very high, but in a space out map like Jabal, it is not.
Also, is there anyway to require someone to be completely stationary in order to fire the grenade launcher?(Kind of like the Light AT and with an aiming delay?)

Limited kits don't work by squad dude. Also limited kits do not allow spawning on SL which, I think we all agree, grenadiers should be able to.Switch wrote:seriously though, why isnt grenadier a limited kit?
Usually there is an grenadier in a squad. Not a squad of grenadiers.
A la Americas Army... there is usually 1, or maybe 2 grenadier positions for a squad that has 4 fire teams.

So then, would it be possible to implement a minimum detonation range?[R-DEV]eggman wrote:irl yes. in BF2 it's a minimum detonation *time*, so whether it lands 2 feet in front of me, or whether it lands 100m away, it's always going to detonate within the specified time period.
