Helmand is never played enough :(

I love it but I can't seem to find a server with it playing, ever. The only times I have were ~ 2AM.

So all the destructable walls can be shot right through?

'[R-MOD wrote:Mongolian_dude']Its an alright map but its bad for mental health.
By that, i mean the players seem to lose 75% of their brain cells when they play it.
'Bob.dob's Finest' squad will know what im talking about.

Every time a CP is capped 'Teh_Mob' (asicly everyone except our squad who moves in this huge crowd, throwing themselves at CPs left right and center. If you watch the mini-map, it looks like a bloody comady sketch.

Its so dam ridiculous that we think the loading music to the map should be this instead.

I know *exactly* what you mean. People simply will not defend. Unless they have all the points. Then they'll all defend the center point, because it has the most buildings, which must be cool in leetspeak or something. But heaven forbid your squad should temporarily lose that south point (as the UK guys have noticed that there's only one squad defending there), as then the whole mob rushes your flag, and you suddenly have to run to defend the now undefended central point.

There are PKMs, SVDs, and SA7 scattered around the map at key points and certain ammo dumps. If I knew where the pic was I'd link you to a map of it, hopefully someone else has this knowledge and can paste it up.

Alternately, you can do a search in the forums for Al Basrah Ammo Dumps.

Yeah pretty much. The structures can be almost completely destroyed, but as rubble they still offer some decent cover.

Not trying to be an *** or anything but aside from the destructable bulidings, which are really cool btw, i dont really like helmand very much. Maybe i've just been playing matches with too many people but it just seems to be a killfest with little to no tactics going on either side. Because of the small size of the map, you can most of the time literally run back to where you died in 5-10 seconds after you spawn. This does not encourage teamwork IMO. I like the style and the buildings but for gods sake make it bigger. Much bigger.

LOL. This thread's about Helmand, not Al Basrah.

I see what you are saying, but this map is great if:

a) You are on the Brit team,

b) You are in a decent squad with a squad leader that knows what he is doing.

It is perfect for classic infantry fire and manouvre combat, mainly because of the low earth walls.

I love this map it s just so pretty to see. nice and flat just like home.
And when its not to buisy its great fun manouvering and finding nice firing positions. Not cowering in buildings but in terrain so you can get a nice crossfire going on.

the map it self is nice, but playing it with 32 players each on their own side is a tad to much. it just seems over crowded with that amount of players on it. other wise cool map.

I play the map in IGI with 54 players and it doesn't seem crowded to me.

Having two squads defending a point with another two attacking it is quite intense and it feels like it was a bit of an experience once it's all over.

workingrobbie wrote:Aye. I was about to say this is what I dislike about Hemland!

You'd think even a mudbrick house would provide more cover.
Concealment, not cover.

Shooting through a wall should be possible but the bullets should be less effective since after a bit they should stat tumbling.

So instead of wasting my missile busting the walls up I think I'll just use my assault rifle as it dosn't stop the bullets.

I really, really don't like the current version of Helmand. Insurgents are poorly armed, poorly armoured, have no special kits, cannot have a commander and they're really lacking in the spawnpoint departement. The only advantage they have are the spawn cars, and some jerk is bound to drive them straight at the enemy and into the river, forcing Insurgent to walk all the way from their main base every now and then.

The whole concept of assymetrical gameplay requires assymetrical maps. Al Basrah is a good example; Helmand is not. Regardless of how good it looks and how cool the destroyable buildings are, it's nothing more than an open field skirmish, where one team has decent body armor, scoped rifles, the ability to resurrect their fallen, rally points, sniper rifles and LMGs.. and the other team does not.
