Short Spawn Servers
Well, who the hell do you think you are to come into PR and adjust the servers to your settings, you don't have permission to do that. So why are you messing up PR by adjust the server to your likings
Sorry just had to get that off my back!!

Not coming in here with as much anger but in agreement. I think the short spawn time definitely detracts from the reason Project Reality is what it is.
Making changes to the mod to suit more vanilla players is not what this mod is about. Please don't make changes to something that many people have worked hard to create. This Mod is made for teamwork and players who want to get away from the vanilla gameplay.
Have some respect and don't make these changes to servers without dev permission.

Whenever Im looking for a server to play on, I never join short spawn servers, even if theyre the only ones with players on them. I would rather not play than play on a server that takes away from the purpose of this mod. If I wanted the spawn time and lone wolfing of vanilla....I would go play vanilla!

man I should read more!!
With the release of v0.5 the mod has gained popularity unlike any prior release of Project Reality. As a first time mod team, along with that increase in popularity comes a few learning points.
One thing we have made a decision on is that as of v0.6 the Project Reality team will not support any form of server side modding. We will support modifying the configuration files within very limited parameters and we intend to provide some configuration profiles for server admins to use, but modifying any of the .zip archives included with the mod will not be supported.
Server side modifications can dramatically affect how the mod plays. That level of impact on game play is not something the Project Reality team wishes to hand over to server administrators. The mod will play how we designed it. If folks don't like that there's lots of other great BF2 mods releasing in the coming weeks and hopefully everyone will be able to find one to their liking.

Let me tell you what I did discovered about that problem:
When 0.5 came out, there was a thread on it on one Croatian first person shooter newsgroup.
First post was a very well written reference of PR 0.5. After that, there came whole bunch of complains and hard insults on PR which mostly looked like this: „WTF, why should I wait 1 hour to spawn“, „What that people thinks, I want to use any weapon I like, anytime“, „I like to see who killed me...“, and so on. One guy came even that far that he called whole PR community „reserved Kabala“.
After I saw all that, I've wrote down one very big and detailed post where I explained to them, in details, all reasons for all those changes and I also told them, at the end, that they can contact me via e-mail if they have any other questions.
Later, after my post, there wasn't not a single complain about anything. I've got lots of e-mails, but only with questions about how to install PR, which are the best servers, where to download PR or ABR client, and so on.
I've also monitored that people, which gave me their nicks, via BF2tracker.com, so I can be able to give them few basic tips online. I never saw any of those newcomers on any short spawn servers or anything like that. They are mostly playing on PROS severs (cause they now know what that is), and I can tell you, they are quite good fighters & teamworkers now. They still need a lot more experience in PR, but they are certainly not annoying or vex to anyone, they are just good and easy targets, for now.

With pleasure sir, thanks a lot'[R-DEV wrote:IronTaxi']thats awesome makee..you are a better ambassador than quite a few of the r-pubs hehe...
Main reason because I've involved myself in all those "noobs stories" is that I have very big experience on "working with people". Trough my 16 years of business experience (I will explain it later in that job/career thread) I've learned one very important thing.
It doesn't matter how stupid opposite side is, they can beat you to the bone, just if they manage to gain that critical amount of people which is much bigger than your side ( x2 and more).
Only smart thing that you can do about it, is to prevent growth of opposite side by dragging their people on your side, one by one.
I think that that is exactly what is happening here. When 0.5 came out, huge amount of new players came to PR, in a very short period of time. Number of populated severs grown, in just one or two days, from 5-6 to 30 – 40, and those new players just started to kicking us in the head with all their crazy ideas.
I think that PR community just wasn't prepared well, to that amount of new players, I don't know for the rest of community, but I certainly didn't expected that „speedy growth“ of PR popularity.

If players want a modded playing experience, thats fine, they can have a passworded server, but alot of players just joing whatever the most populated server is, and when a short spawn server is detracting from the rest, its frustrating. especailly at times when there arent many players on, and there are a few 30p servers, then a short spawn with 64 players, and im willing to bet the majority of those players wouldnt have joined that server if it wasnt a server with 50 players or so (when they joined)

Well the PR team has never made it's "position" clear on these issues, so Admins are kinda free to do whatever they want at this stage. In fact .. I myself have told people to "go nuts" wrt server side modding and configuration changes.
But that has turned out to be a bad thing for the mod (if you dont agree about that, it doesn't matter hehe .. not a discussion .. we as a dev team have discussed this and dont like the changes we're seeing to the mod).
So we'll standardize some profiles for admins and look for more consistent server settings in v0.6.
