Any way rank can be assigned? Say everyone starts as a private except the dev team. When they see good or even decent players they promote them using the built in icons. I have no idea how this could really work though...

What exactly do you mean by "up to date"?
How much info should they go public with at any given moment?

To tell you the honest truth, it would get boring quickly to hear about every stumble and goof up the team makes on its way towards release.
Also, some stuff, I'm more than convinced, they want to keep to themselves for several reasons.

This mod team is actually rather chatty in comparison to other mods, won't name them though! :p

What I AM missing though is a bit of "community service" by the R-PUBs...
You lot should really get to work on official banners, wallpapers, logos and what not of a graphical nature for this community as well as the BF2 mod community in general.

No, sorry you miss understood me, i agree with what you've said above.

(have you read the 1st page?)

I mean when patches / new mod version are released, we see two things happen:

1 . lots of new players

2. the game gets further from the original vBF2, big game play changes.

Both are good, but combined they have, certaintly for me and many others on this forum, caused some teething problems. Too many people having no idea what they are doing. When people download it, they dont get a shinny manual with instructions etc,
Maps like extract are pointless on pub servers as no one seems to have a clue. Sure this always happens with updates but it has only become worse over the weeks since 0.5. (Imo) Likley due to the ever increasing player base.

I'm concerned all the work put into objective type maps might only work in private environments.

The wiki guide is excellent, but its not working.

As we figure out how we want the mod to work things will change fairly significantly. The ideas come from things we already want to change, things we discover we need to change and things players bring up (intentionally or unintentionally).

Think of it as a pendulum swinging back and forth .. as we complete the major changes we want to make .. moving us closer to what we'll call "version 1.0" .. the pendulum will swing less wildly (the changes will be less dramatic).

I think that by the time v0.7 rolls out we'll have completed the major changes we want to make. Then we'll transition away from making major changes to existing systems and shift focus to introducing new content that takes advantage of and is optomised for those systems.

Again a problem we've seen evolve with v0.5 has been the dichotomy of players fuelled by short spawn and modded servers. People who should typically hate PR are finding it enjoyable. The problem is they are not adapting their play style .. the mod is being adapted to suit them.

So we'll look to minimise that in v0.6 (and shed player population as a result). In addition we'll continue to work toward our v1.0 goals and vision (which is pretty fluid hehe).

I sure would like the commander's map to show the proper sequence of flags to be captured...and not have to rely on the announcement on the upper right hand corner.

Have the Dev's thought about making a training map like in an Urban Environment with Billboards or signs up around the place and have targets and cars/tanks ect. that have like a two minute re-spawn time so you can continuously practice?

This would be good it would probably help a lot of the newbies out and of course this would not be a sever map unless it was a training sever.

P.S you could add R.O.E (Rules Of Engagement) like in Americas Army and if possible put them in a jail level that wont let you leave of a certian amount of time.

Egg & Fish, good to hear both of your opinions.

So, the player base should begin to stabilise and the game play changes become smoother and less dramatic. Sounds like a good one two combo.

Egg.. is there anyway to notify players, in-game, prior to logging onto a server, about official PR media. i.e whenever a Training or Tutorial vid or sticky is posted?
That way you would have some form of communicating with players that don’t view the forums. (edited in..maybe even force them to view a link before they can go online?...maybe too 'big brotherish' for you.)

One thing that would help the community awareness is video snippets that contain all relevant log changes for each update. The PR-PUB may have more pressing demands? The recent tutorial vids have been great.
