It'll probably end up looking like something like the pic by ubiquitous, but the contour lines will be a bit more prominent, and the map texture will be visible.

I wont post any more pics till its done - I'll leave it as a surprise ;-)

And sure, the contour lines will have standard distances between them.

Once I've got a decent workflow going, doing all the maps is definitely a possibility...

'[-=IDSF=- wrote:SykloAG']It's been more complicated than I expected, but here is what I have so far.
I'm probably going to have to create my own program though - I need to be able to reduce the bandwidth of the 16-bit signed RAW files more precisely in order to control the relative heights better.

Also, I need at the very least to create vector data now and right now the contour program is producing some very weird format files.

Anyone recognize the map? And yeah I know it looks like **** so far, but at least the contours are about right.

maybe give SL's little extermly detailed little maps and give the squad members the normal map. And with the detailed map the SL's could call arty or whatever. Give it as an item or soemthing so they have to pull it out and use it. That would keep it as a task and they would have to seek cover so they could actually pick the right location.
"They can also be used to provide public service messages: stay away from munitions; units are coming through; stay off the streets because the armored vehicles are dangerous.”

Fantastic job causticbeat! I hope its possible to implement this into the game, they look really good! With certain landmarks named too it would be fantastic to quickly relay positions to the squad.

/me hopes the devs take a look

Well, I still like the idea of having some locations on the map NAMED....maybe edit the map pic and use Photoshop to add in names?
