Sniper weapons

Post by Kamikaze Watermelon »

I forgot exactly what it was called(it'll come back to me later) but the marines use their own rifle. It was designed by marines and is made by marines(i think its the guys who make rifles for the marksman teams). any way since these are marines they should be using marine weapons.
i also think that sniper rifles should have adjustable sights to adjust for range. snipers never aim high unless they don't have time to adjust their sights. this would make sniping require lots of skill. also is their any ways to make ghillie suits more effective. like alter the colors or make them map specific. i want sniping to be realistic where the sniper crawls to a postion to take a shot on a high priority target, in this case squad leaders, pilots, and heavy weapons kits.

im done. go ahead flame me.
since this space is empty..........

While your on the track of ghille suits... If infa Red was implemented in to the mod for attack helos and airplanes and tanks etc (all as they are implemented today) ghille suits would have a new purpose in the game because they are designed to keep body heat within and not escape as much as regular clothing.

Just thought id pop that in.

i agree the sights should be adjustable

1.you mean the M40?

2. your off on the "snipers never aim high" bullet drop is realistic and you do have to adjust for it not to mention windage which requires them to alter there aim slightly in direction

3. i agree ghillie suits could be made a little better, but dont be suprised if the ghillie suite is taken out on some maps as the "sniper" is switched to a "designated marksmen" who uses a scoped semi auto rifle and doesnt where ghillie suit

I re-read his post and i dont think you read it right. Hes stating that snipers in there normal enviroment and not being charged at by some insurgent 50feet away actually set there sights to the distance there target is at and then the air pressure etc etc. So he is right in that respect because you wont find a proffessional sniper aiming above his targets at 800metres away because its too unreliable. Proffesional snipers clik clik away as they snipe to set there scope and i have yet to hear of a sniper who doesent bother and aims 4 inches above there targets head.
Bullet drop is real, correct a british sniper in iraq scored a kill at 850metres in very harsh conditions, the bullet reached 54feet at the top of its arch down to the enemy. Incredible i agree but that would mean without presetting the scope for such a kill he would of had to aim 54feet above his target which essentially is what BF2 currently uses.
Id like to see a sniper carry some binocs with a built in laser range finder which is issued to british sniper and im sure many others countries do the same. For games sake the sniper would take the range then perhaps press the up or down key to quickly set the range to get more accurate kills. Air pressure etc would be an overkill for a game allthough weapons like the XM 109 and 107 use an automated system where the sniper simply enters the range and the ammunition in use and the scope then sets itself according to its surroundings.

what i meant was more geared toward windage IRL sniping isnt about aiming it precisely at what you want to hit you have to adjust your shot to accont for the bullets drift in the wind

Which is done by adjusting the scope for long range shots... No sniper will aim 4 feet left of a target etc. Unless the target was moving and had to bit hit there and then but thats different to windage because thats simply leading your target which increases over distance.

Sniper squads are normally 2 men per weapon and one of them specifically tells the sniper ** click for windage *** click for drop etc.

I'd say Ghillie suits should be, again, a spawnable, pick-up-able kit. Sniper class, atleast for the US, should be replaced by SPR. Maybe MEC guys can have Sniper class with a Dragunov but still no Ghillie suit.. more like an average joe who just happens to have a Dragunov.

Well i dont know if this idea went well with the mods but i know allot of people would like to see structured squads with limited places including a scout/sniper squad etc etc.

A la America's Army. I'd like to see that too. So you don't see 50 people being snipers on sniper-ish maps.

It'd be much better if the sniper kit was actually bloody hard to use effectively making it less apealing and more realistic.

I think Sniper rifles should be pick-up kits. I wonder if you can attach kits to vehicles? It'd be cool if Humvee's had some kits in the back soldiers could pick up and use when needed when operating from a Humvee.

that would be tough to do altho DCX did it they strapped AT-4 pickup kits to DPVs there was an alternate fire button that dropped the kit onto the ground and you could pick it up
