Copilots
I searched and found nothing, so here goes.
I'd really love for co-pilots to be added in to transport helicopters, I see you already did that with the merlin, but to a further extent. Today for example, I shamed myself in front of a full Basrah server and killed Desertfox and Animalmother while fumbling with the map and trying to fly at the same time. Now, the copilot could have a little artillery-esque pointer that he could put on an area, like a move command, so that people inside the BH could tell him where they want to go, and the BH pilot wouldn't have to fundle with the map. It would also save a lot of innocent souls.
Is it possible on the engine, are there any other ways to implement this if it isn't?

Yeah, I agree, I'm also confused as to why the second seat is empty on every helo apart from the LB.

Yea, but that still doesn't solve the problem of fumbling with the map. If your teammate says they want to go to E-5, you still don't know where the hell E-5 is. I would even go as far as giving them limited control of the BH, as in you press a button and they can fly while you look at the map, and then you press it again and you're in control again. The seat is already modeled and skinned, so that wouldn't be a problem.El_Vikingo wrote:Tower control maybe? Assign a squad member to ask where they want to go.

The co-pilot seat on every helicopter except the MH-6 is empty because it is difficult to find an in-game use for the position on transport helicopters, and because due to engine limitations (thanks again, EA) we can only fit 8 seats per collision mesh, and we want to use as many of those as we can on infantry passengers.Jedimushroom wrote:Yeah, I agree, I'm also confused as to why the second seat is empty on every helo apart from the LB.
Basically, if the second cockpit seat in an aircraft doesn't have control of a weapon, there is little incentive for anyone to take that position.

That's where the squad leader comes in.Leo wrote:Yea, but that still doesn't solve the problem of fumbling with the map. This can all be done through VOIp, and the commander relaying messages or by text.
The squad leader accepts the request and then markes it on the map. You then use you 3D Map (ALT)
to fly there.

If you are reading this dont stop, cause if you do, I'll kick you in the balls.

What if you're the SL so you can listen to the commander. or what if there is no commander, or its a deadbeat one? Or what if you're SL is busy doing something else, maybe planning an assault?El_Vikingo wrote:That's where the squad leader comes in.

And the 8th seat on the both the LB and the BH, if you make it a co-pilot seat, where you can actually pilot it, then there would be plenty of incentive. Also, the BH is three meshes, so theortically you could fit 24 people in it, one less person isn't going to make a big difference.

I don't think it is possible to have vehicle control in more than one seat.Leo wrote:What if you're the SL so you can listen to the commander. or what if there is no commander, or its a deadbeat one? Or what if you're SL is busy doing something else, maybe planning an assault?

Re-read and you'd notice that I said that the pilot would "hand off" the controls using a button, and then could regain them whenever he wanted to.El_Vikingo wrote:If the pilot goes right, and the co-pilot goes left, would it rip the BH apart?
You should make a transport Squad doing nothing but transporting.

yeah, i'm often flying transit in the blackhawk, they'll tell me where to go and i'll pull out my map and plot the course of the least AA resistance but halfway through the planning i'm bombarded with "go go go!" and "lets move" i wish the blackhawk a "shut the hell up light" it could turn on and off like an airliner
