Anti-Insurgent Tactics for Al Basrah

Post by Shining Arcanine »

I was thinking, that the best way to defeat the insurgency is for the United States to exercise as scorched earth policy. This means to take and/or destroy everything that the insurgents can use. In particular:
  1. Destroy all spawn cars
  2. Destroy all bridges leading to the two islands in the southeast corner of the map
  3. Destroy all ammo dumps
  4. Pick-up and put down all SA7, PKM and SVD kits so they disappear off the map
  5. Destroy all motor cycles
  6. Destroy all trucks
I tried exercising this policy on Al Basrah today and I had some success, but my squad had trouble staying together and the insurgents crowded the areas that had these assets. So in addition to all of the above, I recommend two very important things:
  • Keep a line of sight with your squad leader at all times
  • Memorize where all of these assets spawn on the map.
Lastly, I would like to suggest that the Cobras and A-10s aid in destroying all of these assets that are visible from the air, focusing particularly on the spawn cars in the case of the Cobras and the bridges, Tanks and APCs in the case of the A-10s.

If the US can do all of this, it should be able to rout the insurgency out of Al Basrah.

@ #4, is you pick them up and put them down, they just respawn. other than that, great tips :-)

Someone please tell me that the above is irony.

I've had a couple of games with dedicated A10 and cobra squads, where I, as a SL, would inform the commander of any enemy assets we located, then moved on. Less than a minute later, the target got blown back to the stone age by an A10 or a Cobra :p

Best way to deal with those assets, and tons of fun for the pilots too.

A commander would be good to help the air assets on spotting spawn cars.

They respawn, but it takes a few minutes for them to respawn, like the spawn cars.

what would be really good is if one guy took the sa7 and was committed to stay at the airfield the whole game.

.........but I don't think anyone would do that.

#1 seems to be the one hurting the insurgents the most. Some idiots just like to use them as a personal taxi or jihad.

I think we should open a dialogue with the insurgents and try to categorize their complaints and use the power of the UN to settle differences without the need to resort to violence.
Of course if that fails, follow the above posted instructions.
I also want to try and get a sapper/engineer squad together, blow a bridge, put C4 on the beams and kill the mechanic that repairs it.
And as the windshield melts
My tears evaporate
Leaving only charcoal to defend.
Finally I understand the feelings of the few.

How about, not attacking? Pretty sure they will TK them selves enough for you to win the round.

It's amazing how few mech. inf. squads there are. It's such a useful tactic, but it doesn't get used enough. Often I'll just go APC and drive really fast around the city. I'll fill up in no time, as I'm the only APC near the city, and nobody jumps out because they know that means death. Then I'll drive straight into the enemy objective, put myself in a corner watching a key area, and everybody hops out and swarms the objective. I usually kill 15 or so insurgents before they get a rocket off on me, at which point I drive away to repair. With such short respawns, it's next to useless fighting the insurgents the traditional way (advancing on foot and beating them back to their objective).

I've used the high speed tactic to keep people in until I get to where I want them to get out but I never waited until the APC was full.
I will next time, thanks GREAT idea.

Unless you're the only APC around the city, it will take a long time to fill up, resulting in some pissed off passengers. Keep that in mind.

I still have fun with it. After they take villiage it seems to take a while for a good attack tempo to build up. But it does.

Funny thing - I came up with similar ideas and utilized this strategy yesterday on the TacticalGamer server. I formed up a squad and informed the commander of my plan. We went behind enemy lines and began attacking their supply lines.
We were able to destroy all ammo dumps, lots of technicals, c4cars and spawn cars. I think this is a great tactic as long as there is _one_ dedicated squad doing it and not everybody :)

Currently I am putting together videos showing the SpecOps action. None of this is staged. All scenes took place within one round of public Al Basrah play on TG:
Videos can be found here
There will be more up later this week.

That's sounds like a brilliant idea...if you get that squad airborne then it'll pwn.

I play TG all the time as colmmlynch...................we should team up

BTW what do u think of the way they allow side switching now? ruins the server imo
