Where has the teamwork gone?
So a couple days ago I'm playing with a few guys from my clan and some other people that I didn't know on Muttrah City as USMC. We had our @sses handed to us the round before b/c... you guess it, the entire team had a love affair with the carrier and decided to never leave it. So as squad leader I was determined to at least capture one flag this time. I type, in all caps so they would see it, to my squad for the entire minute and thirty seconds before round start not to spawn in, b/c the pilot (who I was on TS with and is an amazing pilot) was gonna drop me in the hills behind construction. I would then drop a rally and they would all spawn and we could cap hotel. Doesnt sound that hard does it? Well, even after severl of them responded an such, EVERY SINGLE PERSON (Minus one clan mate) in the squad immediatly spawns on the carrier and proceeds to grab a pilot kit. Then, as we are leaving the carrier in the gunship, some one gets cant deal with it so we take an AT4 from behind to the rotor and go down. Is this what PR is comming to?

lol what do you mean what is it coming to, it has always been like that on that map. Fools just want to fly the damn chopper. This is a problem with games in general, its hard to get people to actually play it properly when participation is voluntary. People complain about that map and how it sucks but really it's 90% Dependant on the people playing it and not the map itself.
Back before PR was all popular and it was just the regulars playing, these were not problems as everyone was playing for the right reasons and generally were familiar with the names of players. As with most things, once they get popular it also suffers because of that. Public servers are never a good place to find a good game, in pretty much any kind of game or sport, the organized and official events are how it's meant to be.

I think PR can have good pub games if we can get back to having pretty heavy filters on the players... the long spawn timers were that .. both for players and vehicles. But with admins changing that filter, you now get players with *awful* habits finding a PR they like, then taking those awful habits to other servers and effectively degrading the overall play quality of the mod.

You also have to factor in the addition of who-knows-how-many new people that are still learning and that means your chance of running into a team 3/4 full of morons goes up.
I am not the best example of this but we should all try to hit the less populated servers so we have 10 1/2 servers instead of 2-3 full and the rest with 10 or less players.
I generally choose a server based on ping and what map is up and play it by ear from there but lately I've been trying the smaller games hoping to see more teamwork and sometimes it works.
With the promised changes to the server side mutability it will cut the percentage of morons by at least 20% and up to 50% and that will leave the eager team players more space to breath.

And as the windshield melts
My tears evaporate
Leaving only charcoal to defend.
Finally I understand the feelings of the few.

One huge problem, commander speaking, is that on some full teams you got maybe 2 vet squad leaders, following orders but if in defence to much, they wont get that much game out of it due to everybody else is not following orders. So they can chose to follow defence orders and get bored (specially if the battled area gets static) or you as commander can order them to attack thereby risking your rear to be capped by the enemy.
I have now tried disciplined vet squad leaders saying "Mike sry but I’m not defending this round, cause last time i played with u, my squad had less than 10% in attack during a loong round.”
So there is more than one bad effect on any existing team playing out there.

Define irony. A bunch of guys playing PR year after year. A game teaching initiative as the prime mover.
However, in regard to EA, these guys never took the initiative.

We could lock them, but it would detract from efforts to make great mod content, so we're gonna rely on server admins being honest as well as clarifying our "policy" on configuration changes and server side modding.SiN|ScarFace wrote:Egg is it actually possible to lock the settings or can you only set them default and recommend people don't change them?
If that dont work we'll have to take the time to develop a locking mechanism.

We locked some client/server side files, and with that goes away the opportunity to edit them. I believe that's a good first step...however if the admins insist, then it's like egg said, we would be "wasting" our time trying to protect the mod instead of adding new stuff to it.SiN|ScarFace wrote:Egg is it actually possible to lock the settings or can you only set them default and recommend people don't change them?

i think those days will come back soon..once we get everything ship shape alot of the old boys (devs etc..) will come back adn play...right now alot of them are holding off until things are more completed...all these growing pains are tough but trust that we have a plan and a goal...
i think we are just on the cusp of the first stage of the maturation of this mod... i hope that you all help make this statement true...player populations have droped by 200-300 players in the past few weeks...this is a good sign for those of us still here as we should get more core players on servers now...
alot of new maps coming...we are moving into bigger more complex ones as well...i can see alot of polished elements coming down the line very soon as well which is fun...and look forward to air assets getting a littel sunshine sometime soon...
cheers... i ahvent played for a few weeks actually...just too busy trying to keep all you happy.. !!
