More smoke (not from smoke grenades)

Post by ubiquitous »

I, thank goodness, have never been anywhere near a combat zone. However, upon viewing images of the real thing, one of the thing that always strikes me is the ammount of smoke around. I'm not talking about from smoke grenades, I mean smoke from stuff that's presumably on fire because it has been hit by some form of explosive munition. Big black plumes of it rising into the sky.

I wondered if it would be practical to get more smoke in the game. Whenever an RPG goes off or a heli gets shot down etc, it leaves a column of smoke drifting up into the sky for about 10 minutes or so. Just to kind of give the place more of a combat zone kind of feel.

Not even sure if this is possible since I have a feeling that these smoke columns and fires have to be placed as some kind of entity in the level editor.

buring tanks and such remain much longer than they used to in bf2.
I think it is quite realistic with the amount of smoke...

would too much affect server performance?

I think it would cause a good deal of hardware lag. Other than that, good idea.

You should have seen the wreckage that was the north desert of Al Basrah when my armor management squad was done. There was burning tank and APC wreckage everywhere. Plus a destroyed BH and cobra :D

"Armor Management Squad"

I love it! I think you made my day.

On topic though, I think this could cause alot of stress on video performance but more smoke would be pretty cool. Maybe in areas of a bomb impact there could be smoke for several minutes.
