BF2...POE2...PR...no contest

Post by wazza_ni »

Hi all,

Been playing PR for a few months now but ive only just registered on this forum.

Id been playing BF2 since it came out and instantly I loved the game. However after a long time of playing I kinda got a bit bored of the same maps, Mashtuur, Karkand etc etc and fancied a new challenge. On the BF2 boards on forumplanet i came accross a link to POE2 and downloaded. I was instantly impressed, however the lack of servers with a decent ping iritated me and before long i was back onto BF2.

However when i downloaded PR v.4 and played it I knew i had found what i was looking for. The first time i played it i think i went 3-18 or something like that...but i still loved it. The added realism, great maps, more servers than POE2, the little birds, the teamwork and the fact that a well placed round or two from the M16 could take someone down (compared to putting half a clip into an enemy in BF2 to still see him run around a corner to get away) made me love this game.

I just wanted to say a big thank-you to the developers for what they have done here. In my opinion this blows BF2 and POE2 out of the water. I have to admit i was a bit of a 'lone wolf' in BF2 because usually coming accross a squad that actually played together like a team was a rarity. Now however I try and get into a squad where the members follow SL orders, provide cover fire and heal etc and ive learned....this is the way the game was meant to be played. Since i started playing Project Reality, ive played BF2 once...needless to say I lasted for 5 mins before I got the urge to disconnect and load up PR again.

Well done boys...top banana.

I completely agree, even with bugs/hitboxes/floppers (proning) this game is still somehow so amazing....and hats off to everyone playing it as well...the community is just awesome. You see people respectfully letting another squad take a chopper ...squads helping each other...and man people will listen to a good squad leader QUICK...heck even a crappy squad leader they will listen too. Ah and once I saw a guy TK'ing on a carrier...so like 2 sqauds started the ol' kill>revive process...it was beautiful :) . Cheers to everyone, playing and the Dev's too! Thanks

The other day on the 24/7 Muttrah Server, I decided just to be a chopper pilot to ferry USMC troops from the carrier to the shore and back...occasionally taking troops from docks to market etc. I think i died 5 times the whole round, no kills and only a few teamwork points but the sheer enjoyment i got from helping my team mates out and the gratitude the squads showed me was great.

I never would have dreamed of doing anything like that on a BF2 server

Yep, it's a pretty decent community. Hopefully as of v0.6 we'll get rid of the people who don't play PR how we want it to be played, so less killing for aircraft.
BTW, can you please PM me that pic you got please? :p

For sure brother...its funny how helping out is really fun. And trust me, any squads you dropped on the ground safely were extremely thankful, good pilots make the game pretty entertaining. I think whats good about the game is the difficulty it requires. Being a pilot like you did is a TOUGH job and carries that old "chopper pilot going into hell to save the boys" kinda feeling...all good stuff. Wish we had more good pilots...they are coming soon I'm sure.

OPK made me cry today. I played a few maps on the only populated server.

The maps are incredible. One is a harbor with a ton of custom statics and it is truly a beautiful map. Better looking than many PR maps if I say so myself. The guns are modeled very well and so are the vehicles. A very nice, sharp looking game.

Then I played it. Half a clip for a kill, bunny-hopping galore, instant heal medpacks and revives, short spawn times, no teamwork, etc. It was horrible.

Please OPK devs, adopt PR type rules even if only the damage ones. Be PR-lite with excellent models. Your player base will only grow if you do. Alternatively merge with the PR team and bring some of the best BF2 modelers and content into the PR world.

Operation Peacekeeper. It's a mod which implements the Germans and Serbians. It's mediocre.

youd think the forum mods (who tend to be fairly overbearing in their own rights) would be a bit more, erm, eloquent in their descriptions

For sure Viper, we're on the way ;) I'm trying to get my flier squadmates at FCW into this mod more. I'm a helo pilot in game, and training to be in real life, and I try to do my 'job' for the squads as best I can. This is a great mod which allows a much greater sense of purpose and teamwork than BF2 will ever know. 2142 gets close with the new squad system, but its still got a lot of 'me me me' in it. I don't think I've seen much of that at all in PR yet - just good solid squadwork and the times that look very similar to real military movements. Very nice :)

I'm sorry, was my brief explanation and overall opinion of the mod not to your liking?
I played it for an hour the other day on the only populated server I could find. I picked sniper kit and found a sniping spot in seconds. Camped it the entire round and got 50, yes 50 kills to no deaths. Even with more people it would just be BF2 with new skins and statics.
Fair enough to the mod team, they tried their best but still, it needs more. I'm sure once they get more out to the community the mod will improve.

Yea, PR makes BF2 so much better. In fact, the only unmodded EA game I play now is BF2142, which, I'm not going to lie, is pretty fun. But yea, with the exception of BF2142, its pretty much just been tatical games for me ever since PR.

It has nothing to do with my personal opinion, ive never played opk, but when you are a community member I would assume that you would want to be as diplomatic as possible, and blunty calling another mod "mediocre" certainly isnt that (not to mention somewhat hypocritical, ive seen threads shut down for much less)
