Are you sure about that? Actually, I think a bunch of other people proved your theory correct...

FSgt.Lang |3-5| wrote:You might want to check your facts first.....3000rd/min = 50 rds/sec with 1 in 5 being a tracer that's 10 tracers per second (that you can see). I say 3000, even though the real deal has a selectable fire rate of either 2000 or 4000 rds/min. The OP's request isn't that much of a stretch.
'[R-PUB wrote:Viper5']THe minigun wasnt running all tracers, the tracers were *Guess* about 1 per every 5-10. Thats how fast it shoots.
:-P Now stop saying that.

The problem with a better mini gun is that ppl will use the BH as an attack helo not a transport helo, they do now and i hate it

Give it vBf2 1.0 levels and make it impossible to fix in mid-air and it would be great.

They made a BB mini gun?! This almost makes the PR community seem quite rational and sane :p

I never liked the BH being the uber gun platform it was in bygone days; I’d rather it was under powered than over. At the moment it does seem very vulnerable though, taking so long to lose altitude, and its guns don’t give it the protection it needs for this dangerous part of its operational use. Also HAT and AA kits should keep the BH moving these days.

On the down side if people can use it as a gun platform again we’ll go back to also having the TK’s :(

Just make it where you can kill someone with it. I have had multiple times where I see an insurgent on the roof or ground, lite him up with a few hundred minigun 7.62mm rounds, just to see him fire the rocket, kill either the blackhawk or most of the people in it, and just walk away unscathed.

How powerful should the miniguns be, anyways? I mean, I don't have a problem with them with how they are at the moment, but then again, I have no idea what they're like in real life.

It shouldn't even be a direct hit, to kill.

Please direct me to where you found these 7.62x51mm NATO caliber high explosive rounds.

To put it simply, in real life with the rate of fire turned up, the 7.62mm Minigun can eat a hole in a tank via pure heat from the thousands of rounds thrown downrange. Note: this is only when the rate of fire is high and about 1000 rounds are put in the same spot, but still, I've seen them eat through a engine block like it was butter almost instantly and that's with standard rounds, so combine it with HE rounds and you have a VERY powerful weapon. Probably the most powerful anti-infantry weapon ever made. (Other than it's larger caliber brothers)

The book 'Black Hawk Down' by Mark Bowden contains numerous accounts of people basically exploding upon geing hit with a minigun.

I think it should be made pretty fearful, but in real life do they have one on each side on a typical mission? Is there no way of putting M-60s or whatever that very similar looking weapon is on some of the more infantry based maps?

I think the point of giving it a small amount of splash damage makes up for BF2s low rate of fire ceiling. If I'm not mistake I've seen a post talking about how fast a weapon is able to shoot in this game.

Miniguns shoot a damn steel rope out. A blackhawk that sits still and gives you time to strafe a targe from left to right, you should have no trouble hitting it. However the rate of fire seems so low in this game that typically you will not hit your target, and heaven forbid the target is moving.

No the Blackhawk should not be used as an attack helicopter. However, with miniguns it can be a support chopper. Go in drop off the guys, then circle at high altitudes giving some fire support... gee sounds like a movie we all know.

Now if the concern is that it would be overpowered, then why not only equip one of the two blackhawks with miniguns. Make the other blackhawk a medevac chopper. You do have options in that respect to keep balance.

The blackhawk miniguns now are really not much different than a regular 50 cal door gun. About the splash damage, if that many rounds are striking a hard object, pieces of that object are going to be flying everywhere and at considerable force.

Yeah but keep in mind that its really impossible to be hit by just one bullet with a minigun
