Frame Lag

Post by AnRK »

I searched the posts and couldn't find anything specific to this and I just wanna clear this up. Why exactly are people getting all this awful frame lag? Is it an issue that needs sorting out in relation to the coding of mod itself, or is it just because it's so much more complex then BF2 it needs higher specs to run with the same graphical quality?

I'm not having a go in any way or form because if it's because of either of those reasons it's very understandable. I'm just a bit curious as to why this is happening, and if it's fixable, and whether I should go get another gig of RAM yet to adhere to whatever specs are required to have an awesome game.

I have a P4 2.4ghz oced to 2.6, atix1600pro 512mb, a crummy asus mobo that can only run the vid card at 4X apg, and 2*512mb of ddr2700 ram and I run decent for the most part with most settings at medium...I have some of the textures turned to high and view distance at 100%. When I first started playing PR 0.5 I had major lag problems but now that I've killed that recent microsoft search indexer I've seem massive improvements. Try that yourself if you have search indexer it might help.
Also, Al Basrah runs okay (as in above 20ish fps) so long as I'm on tactical gamers. igi craps out on me though. I'm not sure if this is because TG caps their server at 62 instead of 64 max capacity or not but TG is definitely much better imo...
And yeah I notice 20something fps is pretty crappy but considering my specs its the best i could really do. =T
Till I get my c2d rig i guess T.T....

No wonder...Textures on high with 1Gig RAM?!
High textures uses about 1.1 - 1.2 Gigs of Ram!

I have the same stuff essentially, P4 2.4Ghz, x1600 512MB, 1 Gig ram. I lag horribly when I start flying around in airplanes. Should I turn down the texture to low, or what else would possibly be affecting the lag?

I know. :(

I have 1,5 GB now and al basrah is lag-bonanza. "Next paycheck", I keep telling myself.

I've changed the minimum page file to 1500MB but you didn't give a guide on partitioning so I look that up myself later. I can't play the game right now so I'll type up if I see a difference once I get the chance.

ctrl+alt+del
Hit the processes tab
Filter the names of the processes
Select and end any and all processes starting with "search..."
Also, end groove monitor if you have it
In fact, if you dont really use search functions or microsoft outlook, just uninstall search indexer 3.0/3.1 from the add/remove programs tab from control panel.
If you dont have this process chances are you never installed it. It was an optional update via microsoft update. If you used outlook or onenote 2007 then you were probably prompted to install it atleast more than once.
Anyways, the indexer completely kills your harddrive whenever it goes into indexing mode. Best to turn it off unless you're just browsing webpages.

I have McAfee VShield on my computers and with System Scan enabled it seriously scans every file that is accessed.. I always just disable that prior to playing.. I never have had auto update / download enabled but I did try to turn automatic updates off completely once and got kicked by punkbuster in vbf2? said something about missing API? function.. so I had to just make it notify but not auto download / install.. which is so basic and newb I'm sure or I hope that everyone else has already disabled auto updates. :D it is like the first thing that is ever mentioned, but definitely helps to turn it off on all computers connected to your network.. obviously, nothing sucks more than getting a 300 ping while in the middle of a strafing run on the Facility :'(

Cheers for that link outlaw.

So the games just a little more demanding because of it's size and complexity sometimes then? Cos I get away with having everything on full with highest resolution on vanilla (It could be a tiny bit smoother but it's very playable and it looks real puurty). It's only the big maps like basra that I, and alot of people, get slowed down on much.

What about the 512MB I have on my video card. How does that work in connection to the 1GB ram I have on the motherboard?
