What would you like to see be done with the Special Forces kit?

Post by Superior Mind »

Get rid of it?
Make it a limited kit?
Make it a paratrooper kit?
Make it a close quarter battle rifleman kit (As in it is the same as rifleman, just with a carbine)?
Or, just leave it as it is?

I think it should be made in to a close quarter battle rifleman kit.

(Hopefully this poll can end some of the debate.)

What's that hovering over the thread? Hey! What are you doing with that key? AHhhhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111111111

Anyway, before lockage happens, I say make them like REAL special forces. Give them a silenced, accurate, semi-auto (maybe even bolt action) weapon (like a modified M4 with a tiny bit more zoom), an SMG with huge recoil, 4 C4s, SOFLAM, no body armor, no field dressings, no pistol. That way they'd do demo runs and recon behind enemy lines. And that would be about all they'd be good for.

They could pick off perimeter defenses when moving in to the enemy base, as well as defend against enemy patrols. They could set up ambushes and radio in recon intel to the commander. And they could do demo runs, defending themselves if somebody stumbled upon them.

But that would be all they'd be good for.

And limit the kit.

But none of your options include that, so I'm at a loss.

Add the grenade back to it and it would be perfect.

Get rid of it, make it a forward observer kit in 0.7 when all the aircraft goodies come in. Actually it would be useful in .6 too with the mortars.

I like the CQB rifleman idea, as that's what the M4 is supposed to be for. However, if it had the same equipment as rifleman, everybody would be using it instead of the regular rifleman kit!

Only way I can see it working is if the M4's damage could be made to decrease with distance. IRL, the 14.5in barrel on an M4 doesn't make it very effective past 150 yards. It's accurate, but the terminal ballistics just aren't there. However, I don't know if this effect could be recreated in-game.

Weapons lose damage over distance. At least in vBF2, certain weapons did (the pistol, most notably).

I'm not too concerned right now, jack of all trades master of none type deal sounds ideal. CQB weapon that's not too devastating (MP5, perhaps), SOFLAM, and two C4 charges. Something like that. Something that discourages their use, except when actually needed (demo, using SOFLAM with aircraft, etc.).

MP5 would be a good idea to discourage them being used as regular infantry. The M4 could then go to the SL's kit (I'd just like to keep the M4 around seeing how so many of them are use IRL).

EDIT:make that an MP5SD. That would keep it with the whole Recon/general enemy disruption theme.

But that discourages squad cohesion and encourages lone wolfing. Wouldn't you agree?

all SF troopers aren't going to carry round those laser designators btw. Too large and bulky.

The idea of a generic special forces soldier in a group of infantry is idiotic, the kit needs to go. I suppose a close quarters rifleman kit could be a good idea but do marines even get their hands on M4s? Perhaps the kit could be transformed into just a rifleman minus the ammo bags but with a laser designator that functions eventually.

The SCAR could be useful here. How about more types of special forces LIMITED (limited thing is very important) kits? Like , say, a SF sniper equipped with a SPR, or an Assault SF equipped with a SCAR H? 6 total kits, 3 or 4 types, accessible only on full 32 player teams and make it somehow that only a 1 squad could have them, to prevent spreading the kits out on the whole team, though I doubt that this last bit is possible...
Anyway, they should at the very least be limited kits.

Special forces very rarely fight alongside normal soldiers though.

If it is possible, as mentioned above, to limit the kits to 5 or 6 per map and force them all into one squad you could do some really cool stuff with the SF guys (silenced M4's, laser designators, C4, grapple hooks etc). If however you can't do that then I would suggest getting rid of it. I do love the M4 in CQC but I don't know if you should create a CQC kit, is that realistic? I know M4's are used allot but I thought the USMC used the M16a4? One of the enlisted/former enlisted guys may be able to shed some light on this.

I would like to see the special forces kit be modified to have a parachute and/or a rope to climb ontop of buildings or over walls. I believe this would make the kit different from a rifleman kit by giving them greater flexibility to disrupt behind enemy lines.

Example: Squad one is pinned down. 2-3 special forces paratroop behind the enemy infantry/armor and destroy using C4 and M4s.

or

Example: Squad one is pinned down. 2-3 special forces moving in the area are able to flank the enemy and climb ontop of a roof to provide suppressing fire for the squad to move to safety.

i just never understood the point of making it a limited kit, since what would they get.. the same stuff they have now? and oooomgggg that's soooo overpowering...

cause... slams can really kill people. o wait.. my teammates.

they dont blow up tanks, they dont blow up apcs.. so what is a slam for. Grenades got taken away which is what really gave them some umpf next to their m4.

Make it a pointman/cqc kit? well what is that going to do for us except what we already have now?

I'm interested to see what PR will do with the SF kit, since the AP is getting shafted what new class are we going to have to fill that spot.

Would be great if the Spec Ops could be restricted to all be in the same squad and give that squad no rally point.

Yeh great idea limit the kit lets say to 4 and have them all in the same squad which would have to be 4 and then they can take out assets etc behind enemy lines, only prob with that is you wouldn't be able to have medic or engineer is the squad only way to solve that would be to but special forces in there own maps which is realistic.
