Require people to actually learn about the Mod before downloading
We have all seen the people who DL PR and immediatly jump onto a server bringing all their noobish, vBF2 habbits with them; and of course those who continue to use their ways of playing and develop ways to circumvent the restrictions placed upon the mod to limit smacktardom.
Most people that play this way do so because they either don't know, or just don't care enough to read about the mod and visit the forums before playing.
I was thinking and it dawned on me that it may be possible, though slightly inconvienient for the community, but beneficial in the longrun, to make the DL for the actual mod private and require people to read, and "sign" saying they understand what the mod is about and the basics of how to play it. Possibly even design a test that they must pass in order for them to be elegible to DL the mod. This would do two things to help the problem: Make people actually read, and weed out those people who don't actually care enough to. While this system is obviously not perfect, and could be bypassed without using a tremendous amount of effort, I think that most people would probably willing to at least check out the changes, especially if they knew how great the mod is and that there are signifigant changes.

Why don't require a certain number of training points to play in ranked servers?
You guys could use the ABR ranked system to track the number of points required to play. You could set up a "training server" where all noobs go.

Sounds like Americas Army to me where you have to pass basic training etc. Plus any of the specialised kits i.e. sniper, medic, SF require additional certificates.
It is a cool idea to have a training element in game. PR has a steep learning curve for and everytime a new version comes out it takes me time to understand all the new features for sure. But if you make it that you have to read through something and hit a check box that isn't going to cut it. How many of you read through those disclaimers everytime you install a new game etc.? Secondly this requires resources to ensure compliance with the mod, said resources would be taken away from the development of the mod... wait scratch that. I just realized if the mod stopped at 0.5 but worked on getting rid of all the vBF2 players who aren't going to conform you could still have a great mod

Ok I thought about it some more, lets say you had to download the player guide or a FAQ/intro which was short and easy to read. The mod would be seperate and the .rar is password locked. Person reads the FAQ at the end of this guide/FAQ theres a password to allow you unlock the mod. Now you would have to set it up so people were not aware of the password except that you must read the guide first to obtain it. Sure not everyone would read it all but it may inform a larger % of people then now. Just a thought.

I think the best way to do this is to make the installation like this.
The installation stops at every 5% mark and you have to press OK for it to continue, this will keep the person installing alert, and everytime you press ok, another hint or tip pops up. May take longer, but it'll weed out more people.

I say leave it as is. If people don't want to go out and find the tutorials on youtube fine; they'll get destroyed over and over and if they don't shape up they'll leave. A better solution would be to have a locked server that only hands out passwords to veterans.

they should have a server with the password on here so only ppl active in the community and who know how to play the game will be able to join it?

Along those lines, the Startup video, that plays when you first load the game, could be a short tutorial with the url of the wiki guide. These are easy enough to delete but most people usually want to watch the video the first time. And like the original DICE video, it could be made unskippable.Soulja wrote:What about a short un-skippable tutorial at the startup. I think I suggested it before but why not have an overhauled version of the in game tutorial from Vanilla? That one with the guy with the really irritating patronising voice.
So when you get out your medic bag it's say; "To use your medic bag... etc" or if you stood next to a tank it'd say "To use the tank you must stand next to it and request... etc".
It'd be nice to have the training too just so people can familiarise themselves with the way the weapons handle and the difference in the flying mechanics etc too. But I don't think it's as important, cos alot of people skip that kinda thing anyway.
