Improve hand to hand combat

Post by BetterDeadThanRed »

I'm one that is always quick to draw a knife if I run out of ammo, but beyond that I always thought BF:2 was lacking in the hand to hand respect. Could an alternate fire for the knife be a jab with the other fist? Not so much to cause damage but maybe a good hit could cause a second or two of the LSD effect and maybe force them back a little (ie. punching a sniper off a crane :p )

Ok, maybe that last bit was too much but you get the basic idea.

in the modern battlefield hand to hand combat is pretty rare, in fact i'd like to see evidence of a coalition soldier who has used a combat knife to take an enemy position, anyways I think if we do have knife combat the PLA should get a bayonet attachment (not that I've ever seen one on AK-47 lol) but if an engineer had a semi-auto rifle i think it would be very likely they would have a bayonet.

I wouldn't call it rare. I knew a ranger who had a guy in his platoon who used a sharpend shovel in hand to hand combat. Yes, a shovel.

I understand if you think it wouldn't be worth it, I just personally like the idea.

A new system would be nice but either not possible or not worth it. Ideally knives would not kill in one hit unless to the neck, unarmored areas of the chest, and possibly the face. Also ideally you'd be able to grapple and disarm an opponent. Unfortunately ideal won't be possible.

Also, as far as punches go, they are next to useless in a fight to the death. It's extremely hard to kill someone by striking them with a bare hand, locks and throws are far more efficient.
Thanks luizinhuu for the find

I think just adding a knife lung attack would be great...it would give you realistic attack..and if you miss, then you are left open for the other guy or to be shot :) I think this would make for some GREAT knife fights...OH or maybe only give spec ops guys this...something like that would be awesome. I like the old CS knife, way back when...if you hit someone with it...it'd mess them up and slow them down so they couldn't just run off. Knifing was a blast.

'[R-PUB wrote:Garabaldi']There was a wounded soldier who defended himself and took out three or four Insurgents using his combat knife.

But yeah, it's rare :p .

do you know how intense that must of been... i mean your wounded and all you have is a ka bar and you rake out 4 insurgents

Different ways of making close-combat more unique has been suggested before, including the addition of fixed bayonets and E-tools as weapons. Please use search. :)

Knife throwing would not be realistic in the slightest. It is fine as a circus and movie stunt, but ceased being a viable combat skill (if it ever was) in the Middle Ages. If you estimate your range wrong by just half a length of the blade, even if you hit your opponent, you've only given him another weapon. No service in the world teaches its soldiers to throw knives, and most modern combat knives (especially ones designed to be attached as bayonets) are not balanced for it.
