special forces only squad?

Post by charliegrs »

i know that in real life special forces dont normally mix with conventional forces {and yes i know they HAVE from time to time like in Iraq and Afghanistan but its not typical} so i was wondering is it at all possible to make a squad that is limited to the special forces kit? i think it looks kinda stupid to have a squad with some marines and a special forces guy, it just doesnt look right. plus you would have an extremely badass squad with 5 special forces, they could go behind the lines, plant explosives, do some CQB missions etc. while the conventional forces are fighting on the front line. maybe you could make variants of the SF kits? like perhaps a guy with am MP5, a guy with an M14 with a stronger scope, a sniper with an M82 barret, a guy with a m240 or m249 etc. and to keep everyone from being SF maybe limit it to just 1 SF squad? anyone think this is a good idea? and by the way im not even sure if this could be done with the BF2 engine im just throwing the idea out there. thanks

A squad with all these "special" and "uber" weapons?
In other words, the squad o whores and noobs

I could see some servers using this to lure in that specific crowd just to auto kick them a minuted after tho...if anyone that runs a pros server is reading this ;)

XD...

This is just like the parachute class kits. Personally I think SF should just dissapear. It's unrealistic to have them mix with conventional forces, but what's a whole squad of SF going to accomplish? Nothing without a medic and rifleman/AT etc. Making SF classes such as the 18 Delta Medic and 18 Charlie Rifleman would be a stretch too far.

wow i didnt know the mp5 and m249 were "uber" i guess pop guns and air rifles would work better after all thats what the navy seals use in real life.

All squad? Probably not. Maps where a faction is represented by a special operations force with different weapons/models? Sure. :)

In terms of game play I would like to see the commander deploy an object that allows for 4 kits to be requested from it. This way, the commander can place it near the squad he wants to give it to. If I were commander, I would use my comms to address the squad I see best fit for the special ops kits.. and then tell them to meet me at such and such a place.. put it down, and then they request their kits from it. After that, I destroy it so it can be placed again. Placing said object should take 5 tickets.

The special operations kit itself can consist of a carbine or SMG with an optional suppressor. By optional I mean you can select to put it on or take it off like you switch from buckshot to slugshot with the shotgun. These LIMITED special operations kit get the following

1) Knife
2) Pistol (Suppressed)
3) Carbine or SMG w/ optics (Suppressed)
4) Carbine or SMG w/ optics (Unsuppressed)
5) Smoke grenades x4
6) SLAMs x6
7) NVG
8 ) SIMRAD
9) Field Dressing x1
so, yeah... probably the best approach to take, unless we can create a "SPECIAL OPS" faction with all new weapons, outfits, and tools.... which would be more work than what can be done in any reasonable period of time.
Wasn't me.

Well, special forces rely on the element of surprise and stealth. If you make a map where "special forces" attack something, it's just like any other map, only with weapons, tools and uniforms used by special forces. How could you achieve surprise and stealth when the enemy knows you'll be attacking? More to the point, what's so different, gameplay wise, about the special forces maps as opposed to regular maps?
The idea DICE probably had with the special forces class was to have them disrupt enemy movement and destroy assets, which is what they should do.
The idea that special forces don't usually work together with conventional forces isn't really an argument. The fact the 2 teams main bases are located like 2 km at most from each other isn't any more realistic than special forces working with conventional forces. Besides, if a special forces squad worked the way it should, then the non special forces players shouldn't even see them during the course of the game.

i think that the special forces should in PR should be modelled a little more along the lines of say rangers or delta than navy seals. something that works in a little bigger groups, is a little more visible, but still very specialized. your right, if they really try to model navy seals we really should never see them

I just wasn't sure if you knew Charlingers, but Delta and Rangers are US Army (along with Green Berets - aka Special Forces). Force Recon is USMC. Although they do from time to time all work together.
