Yes another post about Civilians

Post by Long Bow »

OK I have searched and read some of the threads on civilians. I understand they may or may not be implemented. I understand that there are possible exploits with this and the penalties for the killing of civilians hasn't been worked out. I am not trying to answer those questions.

What I was thinking was instead of a limited civilian kit per say that any insurgent could drop their weapon kit. Once you have dropped your kit you are unarmed and considered a "civilian" in the USMC's eyes. Or if dropping a kit is not possible have the ability anywhere on the map to request the civilian "kit" which would drop a new kit in front of you to pick up that had nothing in it or a harmless non threatening object.

As an insurgent you could drop your kit and walk around, lets say you come upon a US squad you couldn't then attack them unless you could find a weapon kit nearby in time. However you could leave your kit and go look for the US players and quickly return before your kit disappears to acquire it again. The timers for kits dissapearing could be altered up or down accordingly. I think this could be a realistic way to implement this as an insurgent IRL could return to a weapon cash etc. to grab his weapon after walking the streets or report US troop movement.

I haven’t thought of all the problems with this system so fire away. I am not trying to argue if civilians should be included but if they are this might work. ?

If that were done, then you could make real weapons caches. Wherever there is an ammo dump, you could have a rack with about 5 AK-47s on it. When you pick up the kit you only get an AK-47 with 3 clips. I think that would work. Then when you spot an enemy squad, you can run to the cache and grab an AK-47.

I would also limit the Ak's at the weapon cache so that you couldn't do that all round. 5 kits and once there gone there gone etc.

One more item on this, and I believe this has been already brought up in some form is the ability for the US to "arrest" civilians. The US counter to the civilians could be a knife remodled as hand cuffs or zip ties. If a "civilian" is being an a-hole and bunny hopping all over your squad you "cuff" him (basically a on strike insta kill without any point gain or loss for the US but a death for the civilian). However the US could simply not chase down all civilians and "cuff" them because you would have to break cover and could end up turning a corner right into an insurgent squad.

Just a thought

I think it would be cool as a civilian to be able to work with the insurgents but also collaborate lol so you could choose what type you want to be

Civilians are part of v0.6 and represent one element in an attempt to substantially overhaul the Insurgency faction that is not currently working out in any way like an Insurgency.

There are technical limitations on how they can be done and obviously going to be come game play dynamics learnings.

On al basrah if insurgents can be civilians you could add music playing ghetto blaster kits at the palace, and they would queue up to get one. At least it would balance the teams with all the americans camping airport for
A-10s ;)

Lol I like that one. The civilian Idea is really cool and adds the opportunity for an excellent dimension for gameplay....having squads with 1 civilian to spot the USA etc....or the use of human shield squads (ie pray to allah u dont get hit standing in front of a guy firing an RPG).....can t wait to see how it works
