Is there a way to make a flash that appears through the smoke when you get a direct hit?

'[R-DEV wrote:eggman']worst case, we'll just make that smoke effect dissipate faster. it looks cool and realistic from outside the tank, just annoying how badly it blocks vision... so we might have to make it dissapear really fast if my 3p only hack doesn't work.

Tanks really are nicely improved in this version. The unzoom on reload bug is fixed, the zoom is MUCH higher, the Commander / Driver position is a much better way of doing it. Coming along nicely.

beautiful egg, thanks for the update. Really happy with what you have done with armor.

'[R-DEV wrote:eggman']I am no longer accepting this as an "excuse". Mics are $15 and decent soundcards can be had for $50 (and most onboard sound today is actually pretty decent).
Well excuse me Mr RichGuy, do you have any idea what $65 can do to the monthly economy of a family that has to eat, wear clothes, pay a mortgage etc?
Plus if you happen to be of a "young" age you probably do not have your own income but have to rely on your parents for economical support ( ;) ).

I say that not affording the set up you mentioned IS a valid excuse for not having a mic.

Then there is another reason, your hearing may be impaired making it difficult to hear what people with your "cheap" solution and even worse software set up.
This causes poor soundquality and makes it very VERY difficult to hear what is being said. Add insult to injury and mix in male adolescent voices and accents and you have a blend that would make George Lucas' Jawa gibberish sound like school English.
At least if your hearing is impaired... :D

Sorry for the rant there...

As for the new tank crew set up, I think it will be a good thing.
Looking forward to it! ;)

And to prevent Blakejr from getting himself flamed... He mentioned he is getting himself an upgrade, so don't call him a cheap ***.

A third roof gunner is applicable to both Abrams and Challenger with their loader's MGs. But why would you want the commander's MG controlled by anyone else but the commander? I for one have a hard time imagining an additional MG gunner sitting on commander's head.

Btw, modern smoke grenades do block thermal sights as well since they use infrared (=hot) smoke, eg. white phosphorus. Unless you guys were referring to the firing smoke, which should indeed disappear in like 1-1.5 seconds or less.

In DCR they had it set to both WASD and mouse for aiming of the turret. WASD was capped at the realistic top rotational speed I believe, while the mouse was made alot less sensitive (to the point where it was useless for traversing, but very useful for aiming). This made it so you could turn fast and constantly with WASD and use the mouse for more precise aiming. Not only did it work better, it didn't look so retarded and jumpy when the gunner would traverse the turret.
That might actually work, but if done, it should be made so that it doesn't require WASD when you have a joystick or other analogue control. It would be foolish to cripple the most realistic control method by forcing the use of the least realistic one.

well , here is very dificult to find a good sound card (and if i find it , is more expensive than in the first world :( )

BTW , is good to hear the new change , would make the tanks more realistic , but how much dificult would be make a special comand rose for tankers? not the sound , only text . in DCon they have a diferent comand rose for the movile artillery

I don't know, but it would be kinda pointless without sound.

One obstacle would be to isolate the feedback to only the vehicle you are in.

It would be near worthless to have every vehicle hear those comma rose orders or to have the 'move ###' pop up for each of the driver's on the team.
It seems worthwhile but I'm sure it's a very tricky thing to implement.

I would really like to see this though or something to that effect.

Like Eggman says I'd rather see mortars first since that's already on the agenda.

Indeed, and when we first get some experience with the new tanks in .6 we can better evaluate what kind of tools the commander needs and then which of those are doable.

....i just see mortars as a great TK fest accident.

Armor has gotten zoom, zoombugs, slightly better armor (still think they can be taken out to easily by RPG's) and faster speed, yet the driver still just.. drives and doesnt get anything else.

Egg has already said these are getting changed, but dont hijack a topic with somethin else.

Hmmm....funny though, said family or person of "young" age managed to afford a computer, a video card, speakers, internet connection and BF2!

That's exactly what I'm thinking. I LOVED the tank battles in DCR...

I think PR .6 will bring a whole new level for armor combat :)

You can pretty much use VOip on any onboard sound. I have onboard, and you have to go to dxdiag and set your sound acceleration down.

Question: With the commander having the citv view, is there a normal view like drivers have now? Because that is one thing my vid card sometimes craps on and that is the helo's tv screen. Will we be able to switch between the two? This would make it more comfortable for long drives and times in the tank.
