Civilian paramedics kit

Post by Cheeseman »

Will I’ve made a precise search and this idea has been somewhat mentioned, but hasn’t been suggested in this manner. I have had this idea for awhile now, but didn’t feel like (or have the time) to type it, so here it goes.
It’s very clear that the developers plan to add a civilian class to PR and I think if would be a great feature to add perhaps one or two civilian controlled ambulance vehicles (for balance purposes I think one ambulance should be enough). Players can choose to be civilian paramedics to help critically wounded players around the battlefield. It doesn’t matter who they help, whether it’s the USMC/British Forces, Insurgents, or Civilians. Just like in real life, the civilian paramedics can have the ability to driver through the city (like Al Basrah) and help anyone who is wounded and needs medical attention. To encourage players to be civilian medics, they would get points for helping the injured. Players from any side can request medical attention for none life threatening injuries, but points awarded would not be nearly as much as reviving seriously injured players. When a player is critically injured the paramedic would get a distress sign on the minimap or HUD (like when using the medics kit) so they can find and assist in reviving the fallen player, but for the wounded who DO NOT have life threatening injuries, the civilian paramedic will only be able to see the nametags with health bars (like how the combat medics can see wounded teammates) when he's close to those wounded players. Without the ambulance the civilian medic will only be able to assist two injured players and therefore needs to resupply from the back of the ambulance. Also none civilians cannot drive or heal themselves with the ambulance.

Class system:
To be able to get this kit, you need to spawn as a civilian and walk to the ambulance vehicle and press “T”, and then you need to chose “Civilian Paramedics kit”. Now hers the catch, this kit is limited to two players at a time and the kit will consist of:
  • Defibrillator (2 charges before a refuel by the ambulance)
  • Medic Pack (not throwable, need to be within 1m of a player to treat them and can also be limited to two players before a refuel)

  • Field Dressing (Optional)
No particular player skin is need to be designed for the civilian paramedic, it should look like the already in progress civilian for PR. The only new feature needed is an ambulance van/light truck type of vehicle.

Here are a few actuall images of ambulances in Iraq:

And that concludes my LONG suggestion (which is exactly why I didn’t feel like to typing it for such a long time :p ).

I like this idea, but I find it hard to imagine civilian medics attending to US/British troops, maybe add a medic humvee/medevac blackhawk (DC).
but it would be really cool to see a ambulance rush to the scene after a jihad truck just bombed an abrams.

Thanks for the comment :D .
Now hers where the ambulance can be parked:

The buidling looks much like a small hospital so its well suited to have the vehicle parked there.

Hehe, do you want a whole new game or a mod?
You have to look at the limitations of modding battlefield 2 before you suggest things like these.
Maybe I have missed something here but for starters, why the hell would they add a civillian faction? What would it add to the game besides running around and interrupting the combat aspect of the mod?

Second and most important, how will they add 3 factions on 1 map, and in addition make the 3rd faction neutral towards the others? As said above, you have to look at the limitations of Battlefield 2

I can imagine the headache of balancing 3 factions on one map :tired:

I belive that most people play this game for fun, not for points, driving around in an ambulance and reviving other people doesn't sound fun at all and giving people points for doing so doesn't encourage them to take this boring job. Just my opinion, maybe there are people out there who'd enjoy doing this.

Why not just have an ambulance that heals in close proximity like the ammo dumps rearm. Then it's up to mappers to decide how many, how long the respawn and where to place them on their maps, if at all.

Uhhh, we are introducing civilians, so this suggestion shouldn't be taken lightly. Might want to do some research yourself.

How exactly?
As a kit?
Either way its a horrible idea, I hope you change your mind.

While you're at it, answer my question on what it will add to the game.

War isn't one big combat you know.

Firefights happen now and then. Bf2 could be considered one big firefight/battle.

Engineer wrote:Just do some searches, there is a big thread about civilians here somewhere which should answer to your questions. Here is one thread.

There are people in community who think otherwise than you, and welcome new changes, including the civilian class.
How it will work? Well, wait for 0.6 (?) and find out.

And about this paramedic thing, it should make civilian class even more entertaining to play with.
Ok, after reading the topic, I'm really worried...
I welcome new changes, but this is just plain stupid, people must be blind if they can't see the problems this will create;
Civillians jumping infront of cars, tanks, etc.
Civillians jumping infront of gunfire
Civillians surrounding tanks.
I'm really sorry that I'm not a supporter of 30 civillians running around, with 30 knifing marines following them, but I guess that's how they do it in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.

In closing I'd like to say that I'm relieved that the devs rather spend their
time on "doomed to fail" content, rather than on content which may actually work. Keep up the good work!

I think all this happens in real life too?

I have a really hard time understanding you.
Define "this"

If you think I'm complaining about this only because of realism, then you have missed my point.

Interesting, this would add a new dynamic to the game, although didn't someone already model a van?
