Chinese - British Weapon sounds

Post by VipersGhost »

As per my knowledge when a bullet is fire it breaches the sound barrier thus causing a loud echoy bang. Silenced weapons thus have low grain rounds so they achieve sub-sonic status. NOW, as it is the Chinese and British guns sound SO weak...literally my .22 pistol is MUCH meatier than they are. I do understand their are limitations, but the M4, M16 and AK sound well enough, if not excellent. But sheesh, those little pop things you get at the fair (throw them on ground and they pop), sound meatier than the Chinese and British guns. I'd be happy to help garner some sounds off the net. I know their are MUCH more pressing issues than this, but if its not a massive task it definitely wouldn't hurt.

I thought the SA80 rifles sound fine in game.

On the subject, I do agree that especially the AK47 and QBZ needs more of a "boom!" to them.

I agree with the AK and QBZ, but SA80 family seem ok.

You are probably right on the SA80, I'm still rather new to the game. I think any of the guns could always use more Boom to them, at least for the guy shooting it...he is the one that should really hear the "Crack" of that bullet, which almost all guns sounds lack in almost every game ever created :)

I'm pretty sure they're adding a new sound for the QBZ some time.

QBZ and G3 sounds are being redone but not sure about AK.

Where would someone get the real sounds for the Chinese weaponry?

Someone posted a video (with sound) of a QBZ-95 being fired a while back.

It was probubly Caustic, judging from his ;)
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

m16 sounds NOTHING like a real one. It sounds nice, sure, but totally unrealistic.

In reality, gunshots are very unimpressive. Really clackity and high pitched. Sometimes even squeeky.

Too late mate, I've already taken the job of being sofad's ***** :p

I've revamped the following sounds in the current test-build

M16
QBZ95
G3
AK47
M95
Tank coaxials

If all goes well, you'll hear them in 0.6

There's also a major change that affects all sounds but I'm not disclosing what it is until we know it will work.

Turn your bass up more.

The Brit weapons are so F***ing loud with my bass at the right level and my volume up. Also I have a 7.1 sound system with an X-Fi Platinum card. It does ultimately depend on your sound card and setup and how you tweak your settings in the end. If you have a crappy 2.1 system and on board audio your not gonna get sh*t outta the sounds.

I'd recommend those people go with software/high with eax enabled (yes ENABLED). It will still work. People not using EAX have no muffle effect or indoor reverb as well as some other things.

EDIT: Using videos as a reference can be dodgy at times, it's all to do with how it was mic'd. However, that G3 video is what I used when I decided to make the G3 use a tweaked version of the current AK47 sound. The AK47 uses a pitched down version of the AK101 (to simulate the larger caliber). Without giving it all away :p , I'm awaiting the next test build before wrapping up everything so I can get everyones opinion.

IMO all the weapons need a longer lasting and bigger echo. Get on that Jaymz!

The M4 in my opinion should sound a bit more like the M16. I go shooting all the time and my M4 sounds exacly like that M16, loud and deep, which surprised me... but that's how it goes I guess. The G3 should be even deeper than the M16 sound, and about as loud as the engine will allow. I have heard explosions, but that weapon going off near me made my head hurt with one shot, it is a beast. I haven't fired my AK series weapons in a while though... can't explain those to you guys right now.

PS, don't try and say I don't know what i'm talking about because I have put many a round down range out of the AK series, M16 series, aand the G3 series along with the M9 (which really needs to be changed also). I know how the weapons sound in real life and none of those videos you guys are posting sound anything at all like em. Home video cameras will not capture the sounds the way you hear them. Just not possible. You have to hear them first person with no ear protection (just one or two rounds, you can damage your hearing with too many rounds) in order to know what they sound like.

All the 3rd person sounds that I changed have an increased echo tail.

Done mate, in the next test build the G3 and the AK will be veeerry loud. I plan on making new pistol sounds but like I said, awaiting a new build.

GIVE THAT MAN A CAN OF COKE!!!!!!! Like I said, video camera mics are generally shit and will ignore a lot of the content of a gunshot that makes it powerful. However, anyone who goes shooting should always wear industrial strength hearing protection (not ear plugs, headphones).

Right back at ya man, Earplugs suck, I use these headphones with a sound differentiator thing so i cna hear talking but not gunshots, pretty sweet system.

earplugs can only get rid of about 30dB, at least the ones I've seen anyway. Considering gunshots are about 140/150 and 100dB is enough to damage your hearing, I think it's safe to declare high-end hearing protection is a no brainer.

Note : I'll take some free time to explain the the decibel system in NOT linear! 20dB is not twice as loud as 10dB, It is 10 times louder, 30dB would actually be 100 times louder. Human hearing is a logarithmic equation, NOT linear. Unfortunately game audio (for now) IS linear, hopefully this will change in the future. I would love to see an audio engine where it drops 3db every time you double your distance from a sound source as well as an audio engine with nice outdoor reverb, now that would be realism!
