You also have to bear in mind, that as a Mod we want to push the engine to its full potential and give the Community something more than the standard, and with that the players need to be aware that sometimes - to do that, may put pressure on ageing rigs? Look at Al Basrah when it first came out?

With more 50cals than you have ever seen being the mother of all anti infantry weapons used to the max AND massive ammouts of play area AND with players that require vehicula transport AND with jeeps providing alot of it............................................10 present humvees + 15 or more 50 cals and another 30 full automatic weapons with ranges of 300m + and Lots of L-AT rockets = i am sure you all can work out the affect!

There arnt enough warriors and most certainly not enough bradlies (lol) to 1) transport players aroudn and 2) keep them alive while being transported!

Gentlemen it is mearly a matter of cost, men need cheap transport that keeps them alive - you must ofcourse find a balance of protection and cost BUT THAT IS REALITY, o and i forgot PR is trying its very best to emulate reality so i suggest it will not be nice idea for the sake of being able to say every thing is as it is in reality BUT A MATTER OF NECESSITY that will push such requirements further up your list of things to do.

Now if only we could get 64 on 64 battles going on ;)

Great news, can't wait to play this map. Keep up the good work guys.

The framerate is 98 FPS
The map is 17 square kilometres (four times the size of Al Basrah)
The range shown on the range finder is 851m
Just occured to me... They (people on Total BF2) may not know what Al Basrah is...

Just saying.

Hope, they put some holes and ditches into such large maps...so i can hide like a rabbit :P

a tunnel network in future versions would be nice, too...

We still have lots of work to do to make sure this is going to play ok:

- bullet drop issues
.. I had to make some pretty major adjustments to the Tanks and APCs and haven't even started on the small arms yet (tho it's fairly quick to do).
.. but with any major change like this always comes a lot of detailing work
.. don't expect MoA matching accuracy from the small arms bullet drop... we're initially going to be focusing on just making sure the things don't behave like 17th century cannons

- view distance
.. katarn has done a lot of work on improving the view distances of objects. Am sure there will be lots more to work on there. We can't have a vehicle being drawn at 800m, but not the house the vehicle thinks it's hiding behind.

- optomisations
.. am sure there will be things we figure out, but suffice to say that we're going to do our best to make these work for as many different systems as possible.. but not dumbing it down so 3 year old PCs can run it at the expense of engagement ranges and map size
.. am also sure that with an engine never designed to render objects at these kinds of ranges we'll have some work to do around that

==

Dont believe we can retrofit this kind of view distance to all maps. The engine simply won't handle it. There are very few statics on this map specifically for the purposes of creating an armored conflict at long ranges.

==

There are no aircraft on this map.. just scout and attack helicopters (no transport helos.. you need to hitch a ride on the ground) and a whole lot of armored assets.

==

And .. most importantly.. this is a map that introduces some new concepts around game play that we want to experiment with. They are part of some ideas we are working on for future directions with the mod.

This is NOT a "spawn in and frag with a tank until it's destroyed and then get another tank". While there are a lot of vehicles available on this map, the "resupply" rate is VERY low.

==

And uh... also important to note is that these maps will not be n00b friendly maps. You will need to use your head, be familiar with the map and rely on teamwork to be able to have fun on these maps.

==

For me .. this is what the mod should be all about... YES we will still have smaller maps with a focus on Infantry engagements.. but this is the BF franchise.. always known for it's (arcade'ish) combined arms capabilities. BUT... LARGE maps with massive engagement ranges and lots of gear to smash into each other with.... now THAT's what I want to see!!

Is this map going to be an armour heavy Iraq (MEC) vs US (Marines) desert battle over mostly flat terrain?
Hopefully you'll supplement it for 0.6 with a giant Helmand Province map for a lighter British vs Taliban battle with the same map dimensions but more mountainous with a poppy field fertile valley. :D

Anyhow - are you going to experiment with higher player numbers over the 64 player limit currently. 80 would be an awesome step up, more would be ridiculously good.

I don't think I ever got an answer to this: Will you guys be taking a look at the optical zoom levels and make sure they are what they should be? The 4x zoom doesn't look anywhere near 4x at the moment.

Yes, but we have:
- limited resources
- a wide variety of maps with varying view ranges

.. and need to consider both of those amongst other factors when looking at infusing more realism.

Rhino is workin on an equally large map for v0.7 with Brit arsenal.

I'd love to see 81 players and 8 man squads hehe... not sure if either will ever happen tho.

Is increasing the player numbers on a server in PR/BF2 possible at all what-so ever or no? That would be amazing, expecially for the tournament.

*shuder, i can just imagine some twonk taking a tank and going solo without egies/crewmen for repairs

is it possible to make a dome around each starting point that requires all vehicles to be manned properly or the driver gets tked?

Some prefer solo tanking. Especially when there is nothing to choose from except green gunners. I often annihilate many multicrew tankers while going solo.

Yes it is, but you would need an uber-server to run it. I remember people were doing it with the demo for shits and giggles.

fair enough, but if its a slow respawn time on vehicles and not much in the way of other combat, taking a tank to just your self would such for the people left in the main with no transport and no chance of action.

on maps such as ejod i dont mind people soloing because there is always other stuff to do, however on a armour map, everyone should have access to armour
