Project Reality Tournament

General discussion of the Project Reality: BF2 modification.

Would you like PR to have an Official Tournament?

Very, I'd love to be a part of it!

Yeah, teamspeak works well enough that we got Scott Evans to use it during community day while playing the game.

May I suggest, that if possible the current topic be moved and made into a front page lead. My reasoning is that many people coming to the forums who may be interested in such an endevour won't see the thread or miss it, as many people will only come to the forums to catch up on replies to their own posts in specific topics which interest them. It has been my experience in forums that some people don't read every thread and post as I do. If it's posted up so that current members and new recruits simply can't miss it, then it will give a good indication of possible numbers and may also draw a casual observer into the forums due to interest in tournament style play.

The tournament will be great for both us players and the mod. Some Tournaments have close relationships with the mod they use. TW and POE work hand in hand to help both out. Having a large amount of people playing a mod for so much time , suggestions and tweaks not normally apparent come out quickly IMO

I would be interested in a tournament. I retired from TW for the summer due to time constraints. Weather will be changing soon!

I'd love to see a PR tourney of this ilk, it'd be a great way to attract more people to the mod. Why go to a more generalised tournament site when you can play in the official PR tourney?

However I would agree with what's been said previously - a properly run tournament of this nature requires a dedicated team of people to administrate if it's going to be at all successful.

Agreed. I would love to see a tournament, and would play.

However, I have seen good tournaments get ruined by:

(1) power-mad/hungry admins who rule with an iron fist (it is supposed to be fun)

(2) power-vacuum: admins who don't do anything and its a free for all

(3) rampant cheating/allegations of cheating

(4) lack of logistical support and servers not prepared for the strain of organized combat like this.

I have found that good tournaments have some form of historic context, and that good leadership and good admins make all the difference.

well i'm not too worried about points 1-3 with the kind of people that make up the group of regular posters here, but 4 is definetely something that you'd have to watch out for.

You forgot -

(5) power-mad/hungry players.

A good tournament does need a scenario, playing it each week simply to see who wins out over a set number of matches is not tournament play. It gets old very quickly. People want to feel involved in something dynamic, where winning the day is more important than just another match win. The old ways were good but it's time the tournament was brought up to date to match the next generation of games. A good tournament to my mind creates an atmoshphere and encourages players to return each week for more of the same, win or lose. The Admins and the way they approach members is also very imprtant, something I feel would be excellent here, even when an admin or Dev makes a rebuttle, it is in an explained and controlled manner. As for cheating, the only way to truely combat it, is to have totaly impartial Admins and IC and a referee in spectator mode who can watch for infringements and can be johny on the spot with a ruling when the need arises. I to have played in tournaments with these problems as have many here ( where did you play? ) and I firmly believe there is a reason we found our way here. If people learn from there mistakes ( not Beckwith though, he never follows orders and is a pain in the arse to find wwhen you need him lol ), then this could be one of, if not the best damn tourny out there.

Lol, yes, it did happen. Check out the tournament page of the site, although you'll have to get your friends organised pretty quick if you're going to play. And good luck in the scramble.
