Commanding A-10s
So first of all, I'm pretty much useless with the A-10s. But I do like being commander on Al-Basrah. So for those of you that do like going A-10, maybe you can clear something up for me.
When I'm commanding A-10s, I spend a lot of time looking for spawn cars and tanks and whatnot. Sometimes if there's a whole squad on one building I'll give an attack command there too. But I don't really ever give attack commands for single troops. I figure it's a waste of the A-10's time and ammo. But if there's nothing better that I've found, do you pilots want single targets?

Yes, point everything out. Everything on the battlefield is a potential target, the A10 has hydras that they can use against infantry if they can't drop a bomb on the target. Also, as in the last time I played, have the A10's in the same squad so that you can communicate to both at the same time. They in turn can communicate with each other. If they are unsure if they are on fire, be ready to do a visual for them as they do a fly-by, that way you can instruct them to land and repair. I really like to fly, but getting into an A10 is near impossible.

It depends on the situation. If the squad is pinned down and needs A10 support, then of course but if theres a single troop roaming around while the other squads are pinned down, then they need to focus on the larger group.

Uff, what was really funny, when A-10 was bombing the areas, where there was nothing, then ground troops moved in, insurgents slaughtered them, recapped Mosque/Facility, went back hiding, A-10 came - repeat...lol
At least think: if there was a whole army there and suddenly dissappeard - bombard the ********, that murdered them, they may still be there...

Oh come on thats taking it to the extreme. If command spots a target and the A10 can take him in like 2 seconds then why not.CannonballGB wrote:Well this is project reality, I don't think in reality that A10's hit individual targets like a lone infantry-man unless he is causing a lot of havoc, such as a sniper.

I'm not asking if you think it's right or whatever, I'm just asking, as an A-10 pilot yourself, do you want to bother? Any time you swoop down, you open yourself up to danger. Is it worth it?

Yeah it is. That one guy might kill a chopper or a squad leader. There is no such thing as any kill not being worth it but certain targets have more worth than others.JP*wasteland.soldier wrote:I'm not asking if you think it's right or whatever, I'm just asking, as an A-10 pilot yourself, do you want to bother? Certainly there's such thing as a kill not being worth it. An A-10 is a valuable team asset. If the benefit of a single kill does not outweigh the risk of being shot down multiplied by the value people that could have been killed while the pilot waits for the A-10 to respawn, then the kill should not be made.ironcomatose wrote:Yeah it is. But not being a pilot, I'm in no position to make that judgement.

This is assuming that you will get shot down. As a pilot you have to go into every attack knowing that you will make it out. Besides most pilots die from lag or ramming into other planes. Every now and again they might get killed from RPG or AA missile but not going into the attack doesn't prevent you from getting shot down.JP*wasteland.soldier wrote:Certainly there's such thing as a kill not being worth it. Not at all. You calculate % risk by risk disadvantage. Not assuming anything.ironcomatose wrote:This is assuming that you will get shot down.
If the enemy's good and has SA7s working together, or a pattern of occupied AA, they can bring you down when you swoop in. Much more difficult if you're up at 400 meters.
