[?] Adding PR elements in other mods?

Post by sekiryu »

I was thinking--what if I had another mod, like the Australian Forces mod or the Japanese CQB mod, and I wanted to add all the realistic sounds and weapon damages from PR. Could I just drag and drop some files?

Also, would I be able to do the reverse. Like importing the AUG from the Aussie Forces mod, or the Type 89 from the CQB mod, into the PR mod. Would I just be able to drag and drop the weapon's models and sounds into the PR mod files?

Would that work at all?

It could work... but it wouldn't be fair play...

and probably not legal either...

This is a question best answered by the PR staff.
I would suggest a PM to one of the DEV's
And as the windshield melts
My tears evaporate
Leaving only charcoal to defend.
Finally I understand the feelings of the few.

single player stuff that you do not intend to redistribute and only for your own personal use .. you can go nuts. Best check with other mods teams on their own policies around that tho.

PR is copyrighted? Heh--I just want to do it to enhance my single player experience--no redistributing involved.

Yes, PR is copyrighted. Since it's for your personal use, I believe we can let that pass without problems. The problems would arise if you start redistributing, or if you make a mod out of our mod, or if you make a mod with by using content...these kinds of stuff which are pretty commonly "not allowed" nowadays.

I don't even half 1/4 the modding skill you guys have, so no worries there.

Well, the cool bullet impact sounds trasnferred well over into another mod. My question is, how would I replace the M16s with some different weapons in the PR mod? Surely it's not as simple as overwriting files like what I did with the sounds--is it?

Nah, it's just tweaking the sound effects files to more boom or bass to meet the need.

Another transfer question: maps.

One of my mods only has 5 playable maps, and I want to add some of the original BF2 maps. And of course, it doesn't work. Is there some code in the maps that I have to change?

So what's the policy here about getting permission for such? Sent you a PM a little while ago about that.
