SVD2
ok i don't want to follow up on the flaming just getting the facts straight..
watch these films on youtube, you se there is no stopping it is like a proper semi-automatic..
http://youtube.com/watch?v=QcuaZdBgN-4 <--- nice slo mo of the action
http://youtube.com/watch?v=FGSVkPnAHKI <-- some of the shots are way under 2 sec
the stopping of the bolt.. are you thinking of this?
"The rifle has a gas regulator, which serves to change recoil speeds
of moving parts. Under conditions of proper servicing with the parts
lubricated, the gas regulator is set at division 1. On firing during a
long time without cleaning and lubricating and heavy soiling of the
rifle, stoppage may occur š incomplete recoil of the moving parts. In
this case the regulator is set at division 2. To change the regulator
from one position to another use the rim of the cartridge case or the
cartridge." <---taken from a the Dragunov Manual..
some sites are stating a MAX RATE OF FIRE at 30, although some claim it will fire 35-40 (http://www.enemyforces.com/firearms/svd.htm)
http://members.aol.com/panzersgt/smallarm/svd.html
anyways i think the Rate of fire on this gun, beeing semi automatic is said to be 30 just to get a number on it.. shooting faster than that isn't really of any use with a 10 shot magazine sniper anyways,,
I also talked with a gunsmith here who said it could shoot more than 2 a second..

heisann på degsann!
i am merely putting this up as info! (but i am a bit biased)
i do not think they should limit the ROF on the SVD, because from what i gather you could infact shoot the SVD as a proper Semi-automatic!
hehe.. still just trying to get it as Realistic as need to be in Project Reality!

Someone came on claiming the SVD could only fire once every two seconds or so. The thread was locked because it started a flamewar. Nobody disproved the guy's claim though. I think this disproves it. Seems to me that 30 RPM is the effective firing range if you're just trying to throw covering fire downrange. You could still probably rapid fire it if you came around a corner on some fool.KP wrote:Hey, a Norwegian! Heisann, kamerat!
Anyway: what are you suggesting? Limit the ROF on the SVD?
Or is it just for info?![]()

It's not the RPM that's the problem.
It's the fact that it's a joke to put rounds downrange rapidly and accurately. With the SVD you can more or less walk around in-scope and use it in close quarters action with no problem.
While you COULD fire it fast, actually hitting something with follow up shots that quickly would be a problem. Right now it's just click - click - click, with barely any recoil or accounting for the fact that you would have to regain sight picture.

SOUND DEVS, please get that ziiiiiiiiiiiiiing sound after the SVD shot!!!!
As soon as the bullet ejects the new comes in in less than a second. So how cant you shoot the thing at more than 30 rounds per minute. You can **** a manual rifle faster than that!

That's because the sig represents me in PR, plus I love the thing (also because I couldn't find something like it with an AG3).Dimitrov**OF** wrote:Interesting for someone who has m-16 in his sig!![]()

More guns and bullets make bad guys go away faster,
which in turn makes everyone in the area safer.

ANY semiauto firearm in the world can be fired as fast as you can squeeze the trigger. The 30 rounds per minute thing probably refers to the RECOMMENDED ROF. Any faster and the barrel heats up too rapidly and accuracy goes downhill.
All military weapons have recommended ROFs in semi mode (I think the M14's was 60 RPM, for example). However, just because you can pull the trigger faster than 30 (or whatever) RPM, doesn't mean you'll be hitting much IRL. The 7.62x54R of the SVD has some stout recoil!
