Can we slow down the strafing speed?

Post by VipersGhost »

I like the sprint speed, but it seems to me that people in-game strafe with more agility and speed than IRL.

Someone please tell me that the above is irony.

Yeah they look like they're Jewish dancing as they're shooting you. Definetly slow it down.

has been suggested on both here and on the tester forums, I'm pretty sure it's being looked into

I would post a graphic video of a US soldier shot by a sniper and in reaction he runs like an Olympic sprinter, but forum rules wont allow it  . Sure if in PR the soldiers had 110 Lbs of equipment on their backs (like in some real life situations), then we would have a "IRL" problem with the present sprint, but they only have a MULE Camelbak, 4.45 Kg rifle, and 10 pounds of equipment. I can sure as hell sprint fast enough with 30Lbs on my back, so I don't see why a soldier in the battlefield can't when their life depends on it.

agreed - strafing should be a slow shuffle at best

Although I agree that fast strafing in stupid it does however compensate somewhat for the lack of abillity to lean, maybe only a short strafe sprint enough to peak around corners?

In real life you could turn your upper body to the left and right while running.
No one would use the strafing you do in PC games.

Would be great if the mouse could be used to turn your upper body and head.
You could use 60° to use your weapon accurate, 160° to use your weapon and 270° to look arround.
And with a push on a button your whole body would fast but not instant align to your sight.

The buttons you use for strafing could be used for turn your whole body left or right.

You raise an important issue, before they nerf it to much. It's true you can strafe too fast, but this is in part due to other limitations you get by trying to get a world into a box (my screen).

have to angree with bubba, irl you can run pretty fast while still looking to left and right - that´s what in my opinion strafing is supposed to simulate, not simple sidesteps

In that case running backwards should be nerfed too. Such as if you run for over 3 seconds backwards you have a chance too trip and get a mild concussion.

Strafing makes up for the lack too move your upper body, that is all.

lets quit the metaphorical shit, yeah IRL you can do alot of stuff that you cant in game, but making up for the shortcommings of almost every FPS by sidestrafing is ridiculous

yes, please slow the strafing speed. it would make the close quarters combat much more tactical and slow. Right now a close quarters engagment is just two people circle strafing eachother until one falls over. not very realistic.

Maybe you're just a bad shot?
My close quarters battles end pretty quick with a spray of automatic fire.
The rate at which you can spin with the mouse is much much much faster then the rate which they can side step.

Strafing is fine as it is; it's simply the video game equivalent of aiming to the right/left while walking straight.

I definitely agree with SethLive....the CQB battles geatly suffer as now because of the staffing speed and the lack of effect when a person is hit by a bullet. Yes you can win a CQB battle standing your ground, but the straffing just leads to WAY unrealistic CBQ. I would love to see the Dev's bring the CQB to a tactical Rainbow6 level that it should be. This would give the game such an amazing dynamic. You would see players that begin to specialize in this and just see more diverse compicated fire fights...thus making the game more realistic. I know my arguement has flaws, but at the core of it lies a big issue...the CQB doesn't work realistically. This is a very big part of PR gameplay(or should be) and as of now its vey lacking in the reality factor. The same Quake skills allow me to fly around a corner straffing like mad and unloading full auto taking out 3 guys...it happens, but it definitely should be MUCH more rare than it is now. We all loved removing the arcadeness from the normal gameplay...now its time to remove it fom the CQB gameplay. Just imagine the depth of the gameplay that will result from this!! It will truely be amazing...plus comeon guys...how often do you see guys sprinting sideways blasting away IRL. If we want to leave the fast straffing speed in...then make it a "Sprint Straff" where you have to hold down the sprint key and your weapon gets lowered. As it is now, its a problem that can be fixed I think. If the "sprint straff" is too much to do...then I would MUCH more so like to see the straff speed slowed down to a qasi-rainbow six level. If you have to chose the lesser of two evils...then its a much slower straff that will benifit the gameplay more...plus it will prove to effectively enchance the CQB greatly IMO.
