chopper control
hi
would it be possible to implement a button that can adjust the speed of the choppers just like you were thinking about doing to the tanks.
would it be possible to push a button and you fly in the 0-20 (or similar) region of your chopper speed, because it is way easier to make a proper landing when the throttle is as sensitive as it is now, i don't know about keyboards but i find it very hard to control the speed with joysticks in the choppers. i don't know, but don't real chopper pilots got different means of controlling the chopper, than just accelleration, they got hover and similar too don't they, would it be fair to make it easier to control the chopper in hover and landing mode.
i don't know if this a problem for any other pilots, but i just thought i would bring it up.

that would be very unrealistic. you would be suprised as to how easy it is to control a PR chopper then it is in the real world. i the real world there is wind/turbulence etc. the only thing i could maybe consider thinking of is hover control. many of the current choppers(blackhawk, Kiowa, Cobra, AH-64) have a hover control feature witch will TRY to keep the aircraft at a constant hover. however the wind and other factors may have their own plans for you.

I would only use a joystick if there were Feedback on it. BF2 doesn't support feedback therefore I think it's absurd to use a joystick.
That, and hte fact that 99.9% of joystick users crash their choppers.
With a mouse I can last a whole round without crashing.

I started copters with mouse on BFV, and get pretty skills. Then I bought Top Gun AB 2 joystick and I had to learn again from beginning ! Learning with joy is longer and more difficult but sensations and control are great with training ! Chopper piloting is particular in PR, not same than BF and other games...
So, just train, train and train

All functions of working the cyclic, collective and anti torque together. There is no 'one' control that does what you are asking.motherdear wrote: i don't know, but don't real chopper pilots got different means of controlling the chopper, than just accelleration, they got hover and similar too don't they
This one, the cyclic - which would be your mouse/joystick - controls the forward/backward and roll left/right. This tilts the rotor disc which causes the aircraft to move. To hover, a pilot manipulates this control in a way that the rotor disc is centered.
Cyclic
And the collective - or throttle as you folks like to call it (its not, by the way) - adjusts the pitch of all the blades at the same time. More pitch on the blades forces more air and moves the ship at a higher rate of speed/climb. Less pitch means less air moved, and causes the ship to slow or descend. This gives the impression of a throttle to most, as it seems directly related. Its not a throttle.
Collective
There are also two pedals, the anti torque or 'rudder' control. They are pretty generic so I won't put a picture up. They just look like foot pedals. My feet are on them in the cyclic picture, if that helps.
Throttles on most helis are ramped up and left in one place, and a governor controls engine/turbine RPM to suit the torque required to keep the blades spinning at the proper speed. No one in this game is manipulating throttle settings, as its not a feature that is supported. The ships warm up to run speed and when you adjust the collective, the governor adjusts the engine RPM for you to match the blade torque.
Some ships do have a 'hover hold' mode which assists in maintaining a stable hover; I have not flown any with this feature so I cannot comment on how well it works.
Does this help? This is pretty basic, so if any other pilots care to add feel free.

just learn to fly better, choppers ATM are easy to controlmotherdear wrote:hi

military pilots don't start their training with gunfire raining in on them either...
There is a very useful 'flight training' map that a member here created, it has a ton of helicopters from all factions (and jets) and lots of space to fly around and practice, including some urban settings to practice maneuvering near buildings.
Do a forum search for it and you should find it easily. Learning the basics of flying, ie: being able to handle the aircraft confidently and without any problems while in a non combat situation - is the first step to being able to handle the aircraft under pressure and with everyone and their mother shooting at you.
