Number of Players / Popularity

Post by rpgaction »

I somehow only recently found out about this mod, and naturally I have some questions. Sorry if you have answered them all before. Please don't yell at me. :-(

First, exactly how popular is the game? How many servers are up and packed at any given time?

Since launch, has the game population only increased? Is there a steady influx of people, or is it a more fixed user base, possibly even decreasing? If it has been increasing, is this game really expected to ever become, I don't know, the next CS? Is it likely to ever surpass base BF2 in user base?

list of all the PR servers and how many players are playing in each one :)

mod pop goes up with every release, as we attract more and more players, after each release are pop slowley goes down but at the moment its fixed above a 500 player peak every night which makes us the most popular BF2 mod around :)

I go away for 20 minutes and come back to find half the development team answering me. :-)

Well it sounds like it'll be pretty doable because I only usually play on 2-3 regular servers anyway, whatever the game. Thanks for the replies, it's nice to know the devs are in touch with the community in any case. :-)

mods would be much more popular if bf2 didn't have a stats system. completely killed all mods.

You could argue it's almost too popular because of the number of morons you can get.

I second that. I come from the old school Battlefield, back in the days of BF1942, Desert Combat, BF Vietnam...Back then, BF was all about gameplay and fun.

I have a few friends who are very new to the BF series, and all they care about are stats and ranks...It's rather annoying. When I showed them PR, all they did was whine about how difficult it was.

Wow, do I miss those old days of BF when there were tons of active mods at the quality level of PR...

Words of advice:

Make friends fast.. learn the game on off-peak times if you can.. and oh yea.. forget everything you learned in vBF.

Saw a guy bunny hopping on our server yesterday.. He was dead before he hit the ground from his second jump.

I loved the hard learning curve in PR, only thing I disliked was the bitching about everybody else being statswhores. And if you are not, you will be accused as such before you know it.

PR is great for people like me, for whom vBF2 provokes vomiting. Last time I played anything BF2 before playing .5 was probably over a year ago. I remember playing PRMM, and trying to get the SUV through that vBF2 map with the town with two bridges, a mosque, and a base up in the hills (I can't even remember the name, though I believe the main menu background is from there).

Also, I don't feel that PR has a steep learning curve. Perhaps I tend to learn stuff fast, but the gameplay mechanics aren't that much more complicated that vBF2. Actual gameplay itself is even more intuitive, or at least it feels intuitive to someone who played more than one realistic game that emphasizes tactics.

I still find it hard to find decent squads in pub servers. Most of the time it's what I like to call the HEADLESS CHICKEN ZOMG mode.
