same here

part of the reason for not having it off is frankly with something like an m249 you might have a good idea what was left just from the weight

you're not going to run out of bullets and not notice

Dumbarses, fire 5 shots with the support weapon and then reload.....and then do the same thing over again.
Since we can't spare ammo, we run out of mags, not bullets.

We need a system where say for a m249, when its above 150 rounds left in box it says "heavy", then when theres 150>rounds>30 rounds it says "average".
Once you hit 30>rounds the icon changes to "light". Of course where you decide to change what the weight feels like could be arbitrarily decided by the devs depending on normal capacity of mags ect, but I think any weapon short of shotguns and 5 round bolt action snipers need this feature. I turn off auto reload in all my games, and PR is the only mod I turn ON auto reload. I hate the fact that I have to do it, but until we get some info of the weight of the mag, this is the only way to compensate for the unrealism. Granted most of the time I count the rounds before I reload, but when I snipe (with the mag based DMRs for example), I cant keep the numbers in my head for long periods of time. (I generally wait for long periods of time before letting off one killing shot, and reloacate).
