Air strikes

Post by RuSM »

Can we please agree on a way to request air strikes from bomber pilots?
I know this may be included in a future release but I see nothing against a temporary solution for the time being.

1) Infantry can spot areas for an air strike by spotting a boat or something other that we can agree on
2) Bombers along with other air assets join the same squad so the squad leader can make an "attack" order on the spotted area (this will fix the problem with the initial "spotted" signal going away very quickly)
3) Bombers end up 1) helping their team 2) having something to do and not resorting to blindly bombing the map 3) less stress for the commander

Ideas/Suggestions?

the way I see it.
Alpha SL to commander: We need air support at b3.
Commander to Alpha SL: Roger that
Commander to Air Support Squad SL: You are needed at b3 ASAP
Air Support Squad SL to commander: OK, we are heading there
Commander to Alpha SL: Air support is on their way
And then the commander can always mark a "move to this position" or some other marker to the Air Support Squad so they can see the smoke and don't have to look at their map.

That's what it's like when there's a decent commander. But the problem is, if infantry needs an enemy sniper taken out inside a city, B3 would be a little vague.

^^ yes. And sadly there always isn't a good commander.
And yes, b3 isn't that accurate, but you can always spot the guy. The pilots know the general direction so once you spot the guy they should know where to attack.

Airstrikes are the doman of the CMDR.

If your side SUCKS and cant coord and airstrike via CMDR and attack markers, you deserve to lose.

Up the amount of smoke produced by SL's nades. Then, SLs could pop smoke and inform the commander that they want, for example, the area north of the smoke bombed. Different sides would have to have different colors, though, or you'd end up with enemy SLs throwing smoke nades just to confuse air assets.

But yeah, joining a single infantry squad might not be a good idea - infantry can't be everywhere at once and spot everything. Planes are fast, and are capable of striking anywhere in a relatively short time, meaning that they're used most efficiently when they can be fed info by multiple spotters in different areas of the map (which can only be done through the commander if you want to use VOIP). If you want precise target spotting, I guess you could use supply or arty request, telling the commander that you actually DON'T want arty there, but are merely pointing out a target so that the commander can set a waypoint for planes to bomb.

Mmmmkay...

Anyways, it certainly would be helpful for some sort of air request button for squad leaders.

I think all of this will change when the SOFLAMS are operational.

Didn't find my exact topic while searching. I'm not suggesting a feature, I'm suggesting a temporary solution before the new updates. I don't want this thread locked, so can we please just have a civil discussion?

Could we all agree on "Enemy boat spotted" being a request for an air strike? Or something of that nature.

I honestly think that this will help all the pilots & squad leaders out there and will bring down the number of team kills caused by blind bombing runs.

People already use boat spotted for rally points quite often...

I believe there's a post or a few posts around here regarding this type of thread. Basically, if there's no commander and you aren't that far in the hole, and think you can do it, DO IT! If your a good SL, you should be able to command. Remember don't push too hard, give 'em orders and use VOIP. As long as your not annoying and don't yell, I'll keep doin' what ya ask. As for Air Strikes, and the pointer... If there's no commander squad up with a good infantry squad... and keep checking your map.

If u are close to an enemy tank-apc and if you hear a friendly bomber approaching pls stay away from tank or take cover.
Same goes with airstrikes mentioned here too,it might take 15-30 secs to for plane to bomb area per request so wait at least 30 secs b4 rushing there.
