I just get a feeling for how long I have had the trigger held down and how much of a mag that equates to.

Just play rifleman and reload in every lull. Plenty of ammo to spare. ;)

I put the "laughter" into "manslaughter".

overall that is a pretty good tactic. Even if you are not rifleman. Sometimes I reload if I've only shot like 7 bullets. Yeah, there is still over 2/3 of the mag left but sometimes you could really use those extra 7 bullets.
And there is almost always a supply of ammo somewhere near you. A car/apc/supply box/rifleman or another kit. Most of the time one of those has to be near your location.

Man, I rarely ever fully run out of ammo. There's always a resupply or another kit I can just pick up and use. Happens to me in vanilla as a medic, but thats about it.

But some people prefer to check cos they don't want to lose ammo. It would be a handy feature I think. Especially if you survive long enough to use most of your ammo. It would help you reload at the right times and waste less magazines
