Question Regarding Grappling Hook

Post by [T]waylay00 »

Back when Battlefield 2 Special Forces was released, I remember playing a map called Warlord, in which the insurgents fought the Brits. In that map, as an insurgent, I used to use the grappling hook to climb into the balconies of the buildings on the sides of streets. This was useful for ambushing enemy armor with RPG's, and also for lying in wait with IED's.

However, in Project Reality, whenever I reach the top of the grappling hook, I just fall to the ground instead of actually climbing into the balcony.

Is it intended to be like this in PR? I think it would a whole new element of realistic surprise for the insurgents on maps like Al Basrah.

Here are some examples of what I'm talking about:

Now in vBF2, I would be able to actually climb into those balconies. However, in PR, I just fall to the ground when I reach the top.

Thanks,
Wade

There are tons of topics regarding this issue, that’s what the search function is so handy ;-) . Also there are a few buildings in Al Basrah map, where you can climb in to the balcony (like the small one next to Facility).

I "think" it is due to the xpack collision meshes. Correct me if I am wrong, but we don't have them on every single building, but we do on most.

;) for .6 (on a lot, but not all buildings)

Oh, and it was my suggestion to include it, so you can thank me :)

Sorry about not searching. I figured that this would be a relatively "unimportant" topic. :)

What are the other buildings in Basrah that are able to be climbed into?

Thank you! I appreciate it! But now I won't be able to use those tactics on the current Basrah, seeing that it's supposed to be completely revamped in .6. Oh well, it's good to see that somethings being done about it. :D

In BF2v you don't have a grappling hook.

In BF2v SF you get a grappling hook and balcony buildings.

Bf2v doesn't have balcony buildings.

The balconies you can climb in Al Basrah are BF2v:SF statics. The rest are BF2v.

I climb onto buildings all the time with the hook, it's pretty rare to fall off of it once you understand how far up he can throw.

This is my rule of thumb; if it doesn't go to the roof, don't climb it.
