partial jets overhaul for v0.6
db has done handling and speeds and I've done some work on weapon systems. Only to F16, Mig29, A10 and Su25 atm (and will prolly stay that way for release). Jets will be pretty rare in v0.6.. they are simply too fast and powerful for anything but the largest maps.
Loadouts have been updated.
Fighters carry:
2 x AIM120 type bvr 1200m lock range missiles
6 x AIM9 type short range heat seeking
Cannon
Radar OFF mode
Attack Aircraft carry:
2 x AIM9
4 x AGM
2 X Bombs (maybe cluster bombs but we're having troubles with them)
2 x Rocket Pods
Cannon
In the future, fighters may carry some sort of JDAM type LGB, but for now they do not carry bombs of any sort.
HUDs are updated on those 4, maybe not perfectly realistic heh, but much more functional than in v0.5.
Between the handling, weapons and HUDs jets are about as much improved in v0.6 as attack helos were in v0.5.

That looks pretty cool.
Though I'm not a flyboy my self, this does look like a superb addition to the mod. And its nice that they're being highly resticted as well.
But I have to say I'm still keen for the PLAAF to get back into action.

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.
Many thanks to [R-DEV]Adriaan for the sig!

there is no WSO in a one-seater jet
Is there anything that armour can do to evade the laser guided missiles? Like in PoE2 iirc where there were flares mixed in with smoke screens that would cause a missile to switch target to the flare like an AAM to simulate smoke and chaff breaking the laser lock.'[R-DEV wrote:eggman']AMGs are fired by the pilots, as per A10s and Mavericks irl. For now it's using the built in BF2 target objects and we'll expand on that in the future.

My personal favourite addition is the throttle % indicator in the HUDs. Flying the v0.6 jets requires that you manipulate the throttle and this is very handy for folks flying with a throttle axis instead of WASD.
And I think Radar OFF mode will be handy for some guys to try and skulk up on someone and get a kill.
The 1km view and 17 sq km of terrain add a whole new dimension to where you have to sorta navigate a bit. People will figure it out quickly, but at first it's very disorienting.
And with db's handling tweaks they really require a lot more skill to operate because setting up a good strafing run takes much more skill than in the past.

Ok i like everything you just said there. Get to work on those other planes!!
As for the jets being rare i would like to see how that plays out. They are already pretty rare tho so i think i will get used to it.

Does HUD changes mean that the attitude indicator on jets is fixed? As it is right now, it can't even work properly through a 360 roll - it kinda skips around when you're upside down, which is extremely confusing if you're flying by it, and in the fog. Also, does the line have any sort of indication of where's up and down (or do we get a full pitch ladder?).
I'm glad there's a throttle indicator in now. I suck at flying in .5, because when I instinctively pull back my throttle, I end up with reverse thrust in mid air, which usually results in a crash. With throttle indicator, I hopefully will be able to move the throttle back a bit without having the aircraft departing controlled flight immediately.
