Operation Compton

Post by NYgurkha »

Is it just me or this map never in any of ther server rotations. There used to be some serious lag issues back in .4 if i remember correctly, but why isnt it used these days? I loved this map, defending as the british was nerve wrecking fun and assaulting as the PLA was even better.

its not really a unrealistic battle, just because units are entrenched doesn’t mean that it would never happen these days.

Just look at the Iran-Iraq war, it was a complete stalemate even with advanced weaponry.

In the same manner, British troops in Afghanistan are huddled in their fire bases fighting off terry Taliban daily with limited mobility much like they were in the Vietnam conflict.

Plus the PLA side in the map is completely mobile.

PS: can someone enlighten me as to why this map isnt played much?

It's played on the GSA-Bidgy server in Australia where I play.
Not a bad map, except PLA gets murdered 9 times out of 10.

Its because it is a really big map, its impossible play with 30 players, you need at least 50 to have a good game. I like this map also.
[R-DEV]OkitaMakoto:"Cheers, you're the man, Okita"
[R-DEV]Rhino:"I in fact got kicked from a server for tking."
Hitperson:"well done, treasure it forever."
[R-DEV]Adriaan:"Damned classy Roma, if I may say so."
[R-DEV]Chuc:"Pro man, pro."
(yes, it was about me)
[R-MOD]BloodBane611:"Romagnolo, you definitely deserve a LOL award for that."

Check the map feedback
This is probably the only map I haven't played on 0.5 with people actually on it... Maybe it should return with the revampment of limited kits/requestable kits...

As usual, it's the players that ruin the map. It's no fun having your entire squad "sniped" by Heavy AT for an entire round, no matter which side you're on...

We need more maps with that kinda of setting in PR. Im so sick of the cliche desert combat that comes up in everything now since 9/11. I want some woodlands warfare. Not jungle bamboo **** either, woodlands, like Kyongin Ni` and Rural combat also, like Inishail Forest. Praise that map, it would be perfect if it was huge and more sprawling woodlands and hills.

I loved OPC as both sides, but it was really only played after the release of 0.5.

As British I loved being AP and setting up claymores along the south, even if I would only get one or two guys (since claymores are so miserably weak :/ ). As PLA I loved getting to the trenches and causing havoc. And calling artillery on the trenches.

Great fun if you ask me, just needed to be tweaked. A lot.

We removed it after a day as it lagged like hell once more than 20 people were on it.

IF topcat cant operate fireteams and atad of suppressing fire to an extent where all opositions sucums to his might, then a level should never see the light of day again in PR! jkes, but you get the idea!

o, and i found this to be so, with this level.

It's one of those maps where if you don't do what the map requires it feels so real. So basically of the Chinese don't attack at all, what you have is an atmospheric tracer war from the edges of view distance. Feels very real but not fun. And even less fun for the attackers if the Chinese actually attack. Maps that force you to die to complete your objectives are not well designed.
Without a major rethink, it needs to go

It was server lag, not client. Everyone on the server gets it. It's been well reported that there is an issue with it server side. Do keep up.
