Night maps?

Post by bigbossmatt »

I think night maps at this point would be fun in the mod. I'm getting tired of the same maps, and since a lot of the old maps (including the night ones) have been dropped, perhaps it is time for a come back?

I don't know about your server, but the australian community seem ready for it - night maps are harder.

Agree, i think theres a few more threads regarding this issue, but night battles are usually done if you want the attack to be stealth/sneak (normally special forces do their missions mostly at nigght) but other instances soldiers battle at night for mabye theyre trapped in a city overnight or other reasons.

Bi Ming is on the map list for 0.6, which was on one of the older versions of PR, I think... Its focus is "night combat" so I guess it's coming back, I haven't played the map before so it will be new to me

Got a beautiful night map comming up, I believe Dr Rank has released bi ming to the public, so check it out. Im a ghost recon fanboy at heart so anything night reminds me of that, and bi ming is just a very impressivley done map.

Hmm, I dont know if I would exactly call that a replacement for a night map. Dont get me wrong, that map looks awsome. But I think what most people think of as a night map is a map in which most things more than 10ft away cannot be seen without the assistance of nightvision.

Having had the privilege of playing on the *almost* final version of Bi Ming I can say that having night maps in the future of PR will be awesome! It has just oodles of atmosphere and will force squad work since any contact against opposing squads you face on your own will be suicide. There is no undergrowth that disappears within your view distance so being stealthy is easier and you can get right up to your targets before engaging. The NVG’s still kick out occasionally, but they recharge very quickly and last for ages so the problem isn’t too noticeable, just very scary when it goes dark -I recommend playing with your teddy close to hand :p

I think a lot of people are gonna love Bi Ming, although I suspect there will be a lot who just don’t like seeing things in green as a general rule. I hope we have more night maps in the future though, and the mod develops new features for them. For example a few people playing on Bi Ming wanted flares and sights designed for night time target acquisition. Then of course there’s the lack of heat sensitive vision on relevant vehicles, I’d love to see that modded.

I like them, but I cant help but get annoyed that 90% of people will do the 'normal exploit' of turning the brightness up on their monitor so its basically like daylight. :-(

If people could be trusted to play the fair game then yeah, but they cant :(

Its only a case of turning up the brightness on the monitor settings (IE not the game settings), and thats what makes me sad. No way around it.

i think you have already been told ;)

you should love night maps again.

I just assume, i assume correctly, that the graphic problems associated with older night maps are no longer an issue. I always used to get certain walls and textures.. appearing and disappearing depending on what angle i viewed then at. Always made night maps unplayable for me. This night map seems to use a different technique.

I look forward to this variation of play.

(I’m sure a poll on the same subject is quite recent)
