M16 advice

Ok, I hate using this, I can't, I'm **** with it, single shot or burst I just find it the worst gun to use in the game.

For any of you who are actually good with it have you got any general advice when using this gun?

It's like I can't hit anything at medium range with it and AK's waste me in CQB if they see me first.

Yeah: learn to aim nub.

Single shot is the most effective I find. I can take enemies at roughly 200m on single shot. Burst is obviously the most effective in CQB.

For single fire, aim using the top of the "pointy bit" of the sight. I usually leave a little room just above the sight.
Burst fire obviously needs no sights as it's often in CQ so you can estimate and fire from the hip.

Edit: In single fire, if in close ranges of say 50m or less; use the classic double-tap.

By this do you mean aim slightly above I take it?

well it is the worst assault rifle ingame.
that doesn't mean it is ineffective but you will pretty much always be at a slight disadvantage when faced with another weapon one on one

A couple of tips that are particular to the M16, for me.

Never shoot at a prone enemy in burst mode. You'll rarely hit them, no matter how close. (one will go under, two will go over, or some similar combination).

Only use burst when an enemy is either moving directly towards or away from you. Even at long at range if you use this technique, burst can be very effective.

Use single shot 95% of the time, (i switch to burst whenever I’m about to go around any corner, but that’s all guns). Single shot can be fired very rapidly if needed.

If i think of more that are particular to the M16 i'll add them.. hope this helps

M16 is the 2nd best AR in the game, followed by the L85A2 hehe.

way to use it, when walking about in CQB areas, always have it on burst mode, if something pops out around the corner just spray it to death. when also in burst mode, while you fire drag the mouse down. Also I have to disagree with madtommy with some exsteant that infact it is very useful to shoot a guy who is prone with burst mode, the trick is to get right above him, and shoot down on him. He will have lots of trobble shooting up at you, and its very easy to hit this large target lying on the ground that cant move very fast without getting up first.

When you know you are in a far combat area, switch to semi auto. You should always get in the habit of just change your fire mode due to the type of combat area you are in, to be ready for anything

So if you see a guy at long range, crouch or prone, i normaly crouch, take aim, fire, and fire again till hes dead

try and shoot a lamp post in single shot if you aint sure about your aim, the best are thous traffic lights as if you hit the glass area, with 1 bullet they fall over hehe.

na im basing that on personal prefrance

The Iron sights on the M16 are infact the best that DiCE made, the ak-47 and ak-101 have much worse iron sights that are even less aligned.

Semi-auto is definitely the most preferable fire mode. Even if you find yourself in a CQB, you can still effectively deal with enemies by rapidly clicking. It's a rifle, and you'll never have to expend your entire magazine to kill someone, so if needed, you can just treat it like a pistol and keep shooting until they go down.

Burst is more effective in CQB, though, obviously. I rarely use it for anything else, though. Sometimes when I feel like looking cool when using suppressive fire, I'll switch to burst, but semi-auto is just as (in)effective at that as burst.

See I already employ most of what people have said, I just find the recoil is so great for a gun that isn't all that powerful in game compared to say an AK, making lining up shots with the iron sights a *****.

I agree with what madtommy said about the burst mode, even when pulling down on the mouse. At most, 1 shot hits them and because of the hefty recoil your sight is pointing skywards and the 2 other shots from burst miss.

I always use burst, apart from very far distances. If you just learn how to handle the recoil you will kill them much faster with burst.

Personally, I think the Insurgent AK's are the worst closely followed by the L85A2. The Chinese rifle lands in the middle, not the greatest but its not bad.

I like the M16, its the only rifle I can keep up a decent rate of fire standing and still be accurate. I can get more rounds on a target faster than any other assault rifle and thats not using burst, which isn't as accurate, but I seem to have a better time with it than my opponents trying to go full auto on me (unless they're right on top of me.) I can generally out-shoot anything that doesn't have a scope on the Chinese and Insurgent teams. The G3 is probably the only other assault rifle I respect at range.

The G3 holds the top spot for me! 2 hits = you dead and its accurate at range! Only thing I don't like about it is the 20 round clip, which has killed me more times than I care to admit.

I used to think that about the AK but have learned to use it pretty well and I don't think I've heard anyone else say a bad thing about the L85.

Love the G3 though.

L85 is not bad IMO, but I think it's up to the player.. I once had a round on Airport only headshots with the L85

Hmm when I'm using the M16 it is much better on single shot, I've taken out lots and lots of jihad cars with it. The only problem with it is the sights are too fat, but IMO it's one of the best guns next to L85.

it is actually the worst gun in the game(m16), but its still easy to use, just gotta really compensate for the incredible recoil, once you do that you should be able to kill anyone as long as you get the first shot, or if they aren't very good at the game. don't expect to beat someone if they are as good as you and are using any of the other rifles though. still, 99% of this game is who sees the other person first, so it works. now, when they get optics i will say the m16 will be possibly the best gun in the game. maybe only the g3 better. the incredible recoil mixed with the putrid sight makes the gun not as good as the others right now imo.

hehe i agree Rhino.. but i like to use my knife in these situations

i also agree that its a great weapon in PR. I quite like the iron sights.

L85 t3h 1337, l0l....

I like it, its pretty accurate, has Auto mode for CQB (unlike M16) and the sound is decent, not like the Chinese QBZ, which is powerful as L85, only it sounds like airsoft

Ive never been able to hit anything with the AK on semi, so I just keep them supressed with Auto or dont even bother to engage them...

But agreed, G3 is the best, sometimes its one shot, one kill...really funny, when you shoot a bullet and see someone roll over dead 200 m away
