Heavy Machine Gun (Support weapon's)

Post by Enven »

I will you guys ever put an optic on the m249? Sounds really outlandish; but I would love to have the m249 with an ACOG...

Especially for the size of maps we're dealing with...Iron sight is fine on the other support weapons for different classes...but for the 249..acog it!

Well, there are optics on weapons being currently used overseas, ive seen pics of the M249 fitted with an Acog 9by the yanks) and M249 Para model fitted with a SUSAT by the Brits, they look pretty damn good but the engagement limits the guys are working over there with are much greater than what we are dealing with, the M14 being used more frequently is a sign of the increase in ranges and the need for weapons with a bit of punch.

But i just dont think the LMGs that we currently have need the optics.

Not outlandish at all - most if not all British infantry weapons come with a SUSAT these days
The FN Minimi being PR's own, could easily be fitted with one

Not needed really in my opinion. Ah skeletor, good to see another Dubliner on the forums.

Far as I know, you guys use the L108 (Minimi) and L110 (Minimi Para). The one in-game at the moment is the M249, which has a different stock and heatshield.

It would have been the L86 (L85 LSW) only it was a bit **** as a support weapon and was adopted as a marksman rifle with its longer barrel. The British now use the FN Minimi variants for the SAW role

Are the guts of the M249 and the L108/L110 different?

SAW stands for "Squad Automatic Weapon". The M249 is a SAW, so is the HK-57 (Can't remember the MEC name...57 right?), and the QBZ MG.

Why a M60 and not a M240, lighter and ...well fires the same damn round, am i missing something magical about the ye oldy mother of all.......US machine guns!

I will support SUSATS and other American scopes, IF 90% of view distances on maps are 500m + and have serious ammounts of open but infantry packed cover!

Till, that glorious day, scopes would unbalance Machine guns, however on those larger maps, they would be very helpfull for sustained but accurate suppressing fire!

At 300m, i fear SAWs but past that, they are more of a nusance, rather than a serious threat but considering, it is meant to be able to suppress up to 1000m and be accurate past 600m, a scope would be defientely needed on large open PR maps, no option really, considering the number of auto snipers being dished out, SA80 with susat, Chinese bullput and god help us all, the G3 with scope!!!
So yes, when the real and serious decent and therefore absolutely massive maps start turning up in there tens, bring on the SUSAT equipted mini mi's!!!!!!!

support gunners are awesome at their job already, giving them a scope would ruin it, its would be an automatic sniper that just rips to shreds everyone on the battlefield all one would have to do is sit atop on top of a hill and stop anyone trying to get near them from 600 yards away.
with larger maps in .6 i think it would be useful !IF! they made it into a different requestable kit to support such as 'scoped support' and has only 1/2 per team whereas normal support is 3/4.
