Solution for the .50 cal/hvy MG Tripods!

Post by [LTC] Gunther.S [4SFG] »

Alright, im sure alot of people would like to see the m2 tripod here..

But devs dont like the idea of one uber strong guy carrying around an 82 pound weapon plus whatever else he has.

My idea is to have a two man crew! Make it so one kit has the tripod and a pistol/m16 or something. And he deploys the Tripod. Takes about 5 seconds to deploy. Then once the tripod is set the other kit has the M2 machine gun, he gets down next to it and (repairs) the tripod, although the wrench could be replaced with a machine gun thingy. That will take about 10 seconds.. Then once someone hops on the tripod the gunner has to load the gun!! :)

Meanwhile the other guy has binnocs and is spotting with Q and voip

This can work, im sure it will and it espec will with an organized bunch of 2 people. Realistic, cool, and adds to gameplay!

Add this please. Sorry I didnt post in another tripod post but this is very different and hopefully you devs will consider.

You can tweak this a little like making the tripod a 2 man stationary vehical and having the one guy spot and maybe hold the rounds. IDK just consder it please :D

Ammunition carrying would be a major concern.

I know what it is like to carry gear like that and it's a killer.

Splitting down a Milan anti tank missile firing post into tripod, targetting system, 2 x missiles AND carrying your normal kit, bergen and rifle/helmet means you look like wobbling gnomes and can travel about 4 miles before you want to drop for a rest.

Whilst carrying your gear, tripod and an MG you would find that the ammo you have to carry in boxes or bandoliers makes the whole prospect worthless.

It's so unnecessary - every light vehicle is armed with one already

make the gun start off with 0 ammo? that way they have to be given ammo in the field.

Yea but a vehical cant drive up on building rooftops. Or they cant be positioned in tight spots. Also, they are a big target and 1 rpg can hit it from the distance and kill everyone, even if it just nick's the grill.

Not to mention since they're making the visibilty range further weapons like these will be more affective. This is better then a sniper rifle. Espec if you have one of these versions Image

Also.. It's so unnecessary?? are you serious? Is it necessary to add civilians? or bunkers? or ambushers? or marksmen and snipers? Yes it is necessary to add these things because they add to realism.

To say that adding heavy machine guns is unnecessary is like saying adding everything project reality did is unnecessary. Its an addition to the game and these weapons are used and were used in combat. Why deni that.

And dont make it start out with 0 ammo thats what the two men are for, so that the weapon can have ammo.

Or how about instead a commander stratiegic placeable?
at the cost of some tickets, the cmd can place an MG, in the ground in the Direction he is facing. A total of 4 can be placed at anyone time and any at weapon, 50cal+ or slam/C4 can destroy it. It's physics are similar to that of a supply crate. It has an 100round box with 3 auxilary belts. Support viechles can rearm them.

Can't we just make this something that can be created by the shovels?

why not model it as a viechle and give it the same properties as one (ie, like the MEC AA platform but with wheels!). Just make it so that the movement animation is not wheels, but a soldier moving a tripod .50!

But that takes the point away from them. Bunkers I can understand but just a .50 cal without a bunker? The advantage is you have a stationary weapon that is mobile. Not to mention, its kinda unrealistic to have hvy weapons locked on to the desert sand somewhere and nobody can move it.

I would love to see this personally. It would be a very "particular" weapon. It would be easy to pick off, easy to out maneuver. But for some instances...it would Melt Faces.

I just really want the devs to add this important weapon.

Since WWII, still used today. Im suprised there isnt that much interest in implementing this fine piece of machinery.

I would have to agree with Gunther, its a great addon for the realism, and as he said, its a 2 Man Crew who has to operate it.. which requires Teamwork, also if it has a good Optic it can be used as a Heavy Machine Gun "Sniper" which will keep the Insurgents where they belong !! inside the Buildings hiding... this peice of weapon is extremely dangerous, and walk outside on the road with this watching you wouldnt be so damn smart would it ? lol

I also support the idea. I think it's very likely they will have some bugs IF it is possible...
You could just use the tactical rose for deploying it, much like a rally point. If the guy with the other piece of machinery is close enough, he could deploy the second part on top of the tripod the same way as the first part. This thing could enhance tactics almost as much as the rally points.
The way I see it, it should have 1 mag total with a 100 or 200 (whatever the standard is) magazine to keep the other guy close who would have an M16, ammo and maybe a smoke grenade.
Another good part is that most countries have something with this role so balancing shouldn't really be a problem.

I believe it was. However, my main idea here is having two men working together rather then 1 man carrying a .50 cal heavy machine gun, tripod, and 200 rounds lol.

The idea is to have one man deploy the tripod and the other mount the machine gun to the gun, and then they can decide who shoots/spots/feeds belt IDK anything the devs wanna do. They are pretty creative with it. I was just giving them an idea how to make it work with two people because they closed the other thread because they thought it was stupid to have one guy carrying all of that equipment.

^^Thats the conclusion we came to, that a group of two needed to deploy it.

Does anyone know what an MG crew is loaded out with for personal protection here? Few people are gonna want to have such a weapon without something to keep people at bay when moving it. Obviously, I would of thought at least, the gunner himself wont have anything other then his big arse MG, but do real life loaders get a pistol or anything like that just in case?

What? A penknife not good enough?

It's not the size that matters, it's the way you use it!
