applying physics for vehicles

Post by 101 bassdrive »

vehicles have physical mass when colliding with eachother.
though it seems rpg, heavy at, tankrounds and IED's dont have ballistic mass.
so when hitting any vehicle with a tankround it will not move a single bit and just go into wrecked mode whilst if it would collide with another car it would drift off course or even flip.
youd expect a hit vehicle to flip 2-3 times and come to rest 20 meters behind the point where the impact took place.
same with a humvee who drives over a IED set up on the ground. the car just explodes and doesnt lift up 4meters into air... wouldnt it be rewarding and awesome to see that?
is it somehow possible to get this into the mod?
might surely add some realistic effects

EDIT: rewriten suggestion to clarify myself

Yesterday I was loading a technical with C4 and accidentally detonated the charges. The technical was thrown backwards at least 15ft, but it never left the ground. I would like to see this fixed.

this is kinda funny, I was playing a map with an awesome squadron, and I was driving the humvee, and we spotted a White technical Truck,, a Toyota !!!,, AGAINST A humvee.. Now the funny part.. i dont have time to stop i thought,, so i just rammed it on the side.... and guess what? we blow up... into a complete burning inferno.. while the technical truck keeps rolling for a few more meters untill it caughts on fire aswell... now this is just unrealistic lol... we have the armor... and what do they have ? some super armor ? damn it lol

Brill suggestion mate.
Yeah would be awesome to see a HMMWV ride over an IED and BOOM flys 7 feet in the air and flips :p

Because this is Project Reality, not a movie.

You may be right about the physics needing improvements but your details are off.

in BF1942, all the models had physics, and in DC, I was driving an Abrams, and blew up a T72. and the turret went flying about 50m's leaving a trail of smoke.

this isn't the havoc engine, i'd love to see this, it probably wont happen though. :-(

those vids show what I was thinking about  intense aftermath!
compared to that its so very static atm to see a vehicle simply go wrecked black.
a cheap placeholder for what IRL would happen.

Excellent idea - knowing the engine though, it probably isn't possible. We STILL have our rag-doll dead bodies flying 10 miles up in the air after an rpg hit after all.

Yeah. I'd be really, really surprised if the physics aren't hardcoded.

I'd really rather see body physics from the vehicles, if a hummer with people in the back gets blown up you should see them come flying out.

That would be sick. To bad people can't explode. Have a hand or a head land infront of you. or is that to realistic?

from the looks of it (depending where hit and size of explosion) the Humvees mostly ... in lack of better words blow up and not really flip.
